Salesforce Marketing Cloud Integration: Contacts and Consents from Chats – Marketing Cloud at Binom

Updated 6 min read 05 / 25
Short answer

How to connect Salesforce Marketing Cloud to Binom: contacts, mailing consents, and participation in journeys. Available on request.

The Salesforce Marketing Cloud integration with Binom passes customers from conversations into your marketing: the AI employee creates or updates a contact, checks their consents, and sees which journeys they are part of. Salesforce Marketing Cloud is available on request in the Binom cabinet: Integrations → More integrations → Salesforce Marketing Cloud.

What Binom can do in Salesforce Marketing Cloud

Here, Binom refers to your AI employee. After you connect Salesforce Marketing Cloud, it calls the service's actions when a conversation needs that data. You decide which actions it can use. In the cabinet, each action is labeled: read (Binom only looks at data), write, or delete (Binom changes or deletes data in Salesforce Marketing Cloud).

Section What Binom can view What Binom can change
Contacts Contacts, search, consents, journey membership Create or update
Journeys Journey Builder journeys and their status Create, publish, stop
Data Data extensions, fields, rows Create extension, clear
Content Content Builder assets, categories Create and edit
Campaigns Campaigns and their assets Create and edit

Can a chatbot pass a contact to Salesforce Marketing Cloud?

Yes. Binom searches for a contact ("Search Contacts") and creates or updates it ("Create Contact") using data from the conversation.

Customer consents and journeys

Binom checks the customer's marketing consents ("Get Contact Preferences By Key") and sees which journeys they are part of ("Get Contact Membership").

What access you will need

Connection method: OAuth 2.0 with client keys. You will need an Installed Package with a Server-to-Server integration in Marketing Cloud. Details for each method are shown in the "Authentication" block on the Salesforce Marketing Cloud page in the cabinet.

How to get the Salesforce Marketing Cloud integration

Salesforce Marketing Cloud is connected on request: first, the Binom team sets up the integration for your account. The general catalog rules are described in the guide how to connect a service from "More integrations".

  1. Open Integrations → More integrations, enter "Salesforce Marketing Cloud" in the "Search integrations" field, and open the Salesforce Marketing Cloud card.
  2. The "Salesforce Marketing Cloud integration for assistant" page will show the message "Integration is available on request. Request it now, and we will set it up for you as a priority." Here, the assistant is your Binom. The "Authentication" block shows which access you will need, and the "Actions" list shows everything Binom can do in Salesforce Marketing Cloud.
  3. Click "Request integration". The message "Request sent. You will receive a notification when the integration is available." will appear, and the button will change to "Requested".
  4. A Binom setup specialist will contact you. When the integration is ready, a "Connect" button will appear on the Salesforce Marketing Cloud page.
  5. Click "Connect", go through the steps in the "Connecting Salesforce Marketing Cloud" window, and click "Done". After "Connecting…", the status will change to "Connected". If you see "Confirmation has not arrived yet. The connection may still complete – check again in a minute.", click "Check again".

How to choose what Binom can do in Salesforce Marketing Cloud

The connected integration does nothing until you allow actions. The dashboard says it directly: "Select the actions the assistant may perform. Until you select something, it has no access to any of them."

  1. On the Salesforce Marketing Cloud page, check the actions you need in the "Actions" list. The "Filter actions" field helps you find them by name. The counter shows how many are selected.
  2. Check the "Ask before changing data" toggle. It is on by default: before any write or delete action, Binom will describe what it plans to do and wait for your approval.
  3. Click "Save". The message "Allowed actions saved" confirms your changes.

To start, "Search Contacts", "Create Contact", "Get Contact Preferences By Key" and "Search Journeys" are enough. Add update and delete actions when you are ready to let Binom make changes in Salesforce Marketing Cloud.

How to check that the integration works

  • Start a new conversation with your Binom, for example through the public chat link, and leave a test email. Then check the contact in Marketing Cloud.

Possible issues

Binom does not use Salesforce Marketing Cloud data in its answers

What to check: that the Salesforce Marketing Cloud status is "Connected" and that the required actions are selected (for example "Create Contact").
What to do: select the actions and click "Save".
How to tell it is fixed: the message "Allowed actions saved" appears, and in a new conversation Binom answers using Salesforce Marketing Cloud data.

"Could not save the request. Please try again."

What to do: click "Request integration" again. If the message keeps appearing, write to support@binomai.com with the name of your Binom and the integration (Salesforce Marketing Cloud).
How to tell it is fixed: the button shows "Requested".

"The integration is temporarily unavailable – your request has been saved."

You don't need to do anything else: your request is saved, and you will get a notification when Salesforce Marketing Cloud can be connected.

"Needs reconnecting"

What this means: "The service no longer accepts saved access, so the assistant does not use it."
What to do: open the Salesforce Marketing Cloud page in More integrations, click "Reconnect", and go through the connection window again.
How to tell it is fixed: the status shows "Connected".

"Could not start the connection. Please try again."

What to do: click "Connect" again. If the message keeps appearing, write to support@binomai.com with the name of your Binom, the integration (Salesforce Marketing Cloud), and a screenshot of the message.
How to tell it is fixed: the "Connect Salesforce Marketing Cloud" window opens.

"Paid plan" instead of the connect button

The page will show "Available on a paid plan. Tell us what you need, and we will let you know when it launches." For what each plan includes, see the plans and subscription pricing page, and for how to change your plan, see how to change or upgrade your plan. After changing your plan, return to More integrations and open Salesforce Marketing Cloud again.

"You don't have permission to manage this section."

What this means: only users with the Owner or Admin access level can manage integrations.
What to do: ask the account owner to give you the Admin access level or to connect Salesforce Marketing Cloud yourself. More details: access levels in a team.
How to tell it's resolved: after you refresh the page, the integration settings open.

If the problem persists, write to support@binomai.com or send "I want to talk to a human" in the chat with Binom Tutor. Include the name of the Binom, the integration, and attach a screenshot of the message.

How to disconnect Salesforce Marketing Cloud

On the Salesforce Marketing Cloud page, click "Disconnect". The "Disconnect Salesforce Marketing Cloud?" window will show a warning: "The assistant will lose access to the service. To restore it, you will need to reconnect the integration and enter the credentials again." Confirm, and the message "Integration disconnected" will appear.

Other common questions

Do I need a developer to integrate Salesforce Marketing Cloud?

No. You request Salesforce Marketing Cloud in the Integrations → More integrations section, the Binom team sets up the integration, and then you connect the account yourself and choose the actions.
