Campaign Monitor Integration: Subscribers and Emails from Chats – Campaign Monitor in Binom

Updated 6 min read 21 / 25
Short answer

How to connect Campaign Monitor to Binom: subscribe and unsubscribe from a conversation, send emails from a template. Available on request.

The Campaign Monitor integration with Binom connects conversations with your email campaigns: the AI employee subscribes a customer to a list, unsubscribes them on request, and sends an email based on a template. Campaign Monitor is available on request in the Binom dashboard: Integrations → More integrations → Campaign Monitor.

What Binom can do in Campaign Monitor

Here, Binom refers to your AI employee. Once Campaign Monitor is connected, it calls the service's actions when a conversation needs that data. You decide which actions are available to it. In the dashboard, each action is labeled: read (Binom only views data), write, or delete (Binom changes or deletes data in Campaign Monitor).

Section What Binom can view What Binom can change
Subscribers Subscriber and their history Add, update, unsubscribe, delete
Lists and segments Lists, statistics, segments Create and update
Campaigns Campaigns, opens, clicks, unsubscribes Create draft, send
Event-triggered emails Template (smart) emails Send email
Templates Templates Create and update

How do I subscribe a customer to a Campaign Monitor mailing list from the chat?

With the customer's consent, Binom adds them to the list ("Add Subscriber"). If the customer asks to be unsubscribed, Binom runs "Unsubscribe Subscriber".

Emailing the customer after a conversation

Binom sends an email based on your template ("Send Smart Email"), for example with materials you agreed on.

What access you will need

You can connect in one of these ways: an API key, or OAuth 2.0 sign-in (you log in to your service account and confirm access). Details for each method are shown in the "Authentication" block on the Campaign Monitor page in the dashboard.

How to get the Campaign Monitor integration

Campaign Monitor is connected on request: first, the Binom team sets up the integration for your account. General catalog rules are described in the instructions how to connect a service from "More integrations".

  1. Open Integrations → More integrations, enter "Campaign Monitor" in the "Search integrations" field, and open the Campaign Monitor card.
  2. The "Campaign Monitor integration for assistant" page will show the message "Integration available on request. Request it now, and we will set it up for you as a priority." Assistant here means your Binom. The "Authentication" block shows which access you will need, and the "Actions" list shows everything Binom can do in Campaign Monitor.
  3. Click "Request integration". The message "Request sent. You will receive a notification when the integration is available." will appear, and the button will change to "Requested".
  4. A Binom setup specialist will contact you. When the integration is ready, a "Connect" button will appear on the Campaign Monitor page.
  5. Click "Connect", go through the steps in the "Connecting Campaign Monitor" window, and click "Done". After "Connecting…", the status will change to "Connected". If the message "Confirmation has not arrived yet. The connection may still complete, so check again in a minute." appears, click "Check again".

How to choose what Binom can do in Campaign Monitor

A connected integration does nothing until you allow actions. The dashboard states this clearly: "Select the actions the assistant may trigger. While nothing is selected, it has no access to any of them."

  1. On the Campaign Monitor page, tick the actions you need in the "Actions" list. The "Filter by actions" field helps you find them by name. The counter shows how many are selected.
  2. Check the "Ask before changing data" toggle. It is on by default: before any action that writes or deletes data, Binom will describe what it is about to do and wait for your response.
  3. Click "Save". The message "Allowed actions saved" confirms the changes.

To get started, "Get List Details", "Add Subscriber", "Send Smart Email" and "Unsubscribe Subscriber" are enough. Add the update and delete actions when you are ready to let Binom make changes in Campaign Monitor.

How to check that the integration works

  • Start a new conversation with your Binom, for example through the public chat link, and agree to receive a mailing with a test email. Check the subscriber in the list.
  • Delete the test subscriber after checking.

Possible problems

Binom does not use Campaign Monitor data in its replies

What to check: the Campaign Monitor status is "Connected", and the required actions are ticked (for example "Add Subscriber").
What to do: tick the actions and click "Save".
How to tell it is resolved: the "Allowed actions saved" message appears, and in a new conversation Binom replies using Campaign Monitor data.

"Couldn't save the request. Please try again."

What to do: click "Request integration" again. If the message keeps appearing, write to support@binomai.com with the name of your Binom and the integration (Campaign Monitor).
How to tell it is resolved: the button shows "Requested".

"Integration is temporarily unavailable – your request has been saved."

Nothing else is needed: the request is saved, and you will receive a notification when Campaign Monitor can be connected.

"Reconnection required"

What this means: "The service no longer accepts saved access, so the assistant does not use it."
What to do: open the Campaign Monitor page in More integrations, click "Reconnect" and go through the connection window again.
How to tell it is resolved: the status shows "Connected".

"Couldn't start the connection. Please try again."

What to do: click "Connect" again. If the message keeps appearing, write to support@binomai.com with the name of your Binom, the integration (Campaign Monitor) and a screenshot of the message.
How to tell it is resolved: the "Connect Campaign Monitor" window opens.

"On a paid plan" instead of the connect button

The page will show "Available on a paid plan. Tell us what you need, and we will let you know when it launches." For what is included in each plan, see the plans and subscription pricing page, and for how to change your plan, see the guide how to change or upgrade your plan. After changing your plan, return to More integrations and open Campaign Monitor again.

"You do not have permission to manage this section."

What this means: only users with the Owner or Admin access level can manage integrations.
What to do: ask the account owner to give you the Admin access level or to connect Campaign Monitor yourself. More details: access levels in the team.
How to tell it's resolved: after you refresh the page, the integration settings open.

If the problem isn't resolved, write to support@binomai.com or send "I want to talk to a person" in the chat with Binom Tutor. Include the name of the Binom, the integration, and attach a screenshot of the message.

How to disconnect Campaign Monitor

On the Campaign Monitor page, click "Disconnect". The "Disconnect Campaign Monitor?" window will show a warning: "The assistant will lose access to the service. To restore it, you will need to reconnect the integration and enter the access details again." Confirm, and "Integration disconnected" will appear.

Other common questions

Do I need a developer to integrate Campaign Monitor?

No. You request Campaign Monitor in the Integrations → More integrations section, the Binom team sets up the integration, and then you connect the account yourself and choose the actions.
