How to connect Deputy to Binom: shift schedule, clock on and clock off, employee unavailability. Available on request.
The Deputy integration with Binom helps shift workers: your AI employee shows the schedule, clocks shifts in and out, and records when an employee can't make it in. Deputy is available on request in your Binom account: Integrations → More integrations → Deputy.
What Binom can do in Deputy
Binom here means your AI employee. Once Deputy is connected, it calls the service's actions when a conversation needs that data. You decide which actions it can use. In your account, every action is labeled: read (Binom only views data), write or delete (Binom changes or removes data in Deputy).
| Section | What Binom can view | What Binom can change |
|---|---|---|
| Rosters | Upcoming rosters | Copying, publishing, cancelling |
| Timesheets | Timesheets, shift status | Start, end, break |
| Unavailability | Employee unavailability and availability | Adding unavailability |
| Employees | Employees, roles, contracts | Creating, editing, inviting |
| Locations | Locations, departments | Creating and editing |
Can an employee check their shift through Binom?
Yes. Binom shows the roster for the coming days ("Get Recent Rosters") and the current shift status ("Get Employee Shift Status").
Clocking shifts on and off
An employee writes in the chat that they have started or finished work, and Binom records it ("Start Timesheet (Clock On)", "Stop Timesheet (Clock Off)"). If an employee can't come in, Binom records the unavailability ("Add Employee Unavailability").
What access you will need
Connection method: sign-in via OAuth 2.0 (you log in to your service account and confirm access). The connection is made by signing in to your Deputy account. Details for each method are shown in the "Authentication" block on the Deputy page in your account.
How to get the Deputy integration
Deputy is connected on request: first the Binom team sets up the integration for your account. The general catalog rules are described in the guide how to connect a service from "More integrations".
- Open Integrations → More integrations, enter "Deputy" in the "Search integrations" field, and open the Deputy card.
- The "Deputy integration for assistant" page will show the message "Integration available on request. Request it now and we will set it up for you as a priority." Assistant here means your Binom. The "Authentication" block shows which access you will need, and the "Actions" list shows everything Binom can do in Deputy.
- Click "Request integration". The message "Request sent. You will receive a notification when the integration is available." appears, and the button changes to "Requested".
- A Binom team member will contact you about the setup. When the integration is ready, a "Connect" button will appear on the Deputy page.
- Click "Connect", go through the steps in the "Connect Deputy" window, and click "Done". After "Connecting…", the status will change to "Connected". If the message "Confirmation has not arrived yet. The connection may still complete, so check again in a minute." appears, click "Check again".
How to choose what Binom can do in Deputy
A connected integration does nothing until you allow actions. Your account states this clearly: "Select the actions the assistant can call. Until something is selected, it cannot use any of them."
- On the Deputy page, tick the actions you need in the "Actions" list. The "Filter by actions" field helps you find them by name. The counter shows how many are selected.
- Check the "Ask before changing data" toggle. It is on by default: before a write or delete action, Binom will describe what it is about to do and wait for your answer.
- Click "Save". The message "Allowed actions saved" confirms the changes.
To start, "Search Employees", "Get Recent Rosters", "Get Employee Shift Status" and "Add Employee Unavailability" are enough. Add the change and delete actions when you are ready to let Binom make changes in Deputy.
How to check that the integration works
- Start a new conversation with your Binom, for example through a public chat link, ask about your shift for tomorrow, and compare the answer with Deputy.
Possible problems
Binom does not use Deputy data in its answers
What to check: the Deputy status is "Connected" and the needed actions are ticked (for example "Get Recent Rosters").
What to do: tick the actions and click "Save".
How to tell it is solved: the message "Allowed actions saved" appears, and in a new conversation Binom answers using Deputy data.
"Could not save the request. Please try again."
What to do: click "Request integration" again. If the message keeps appearing, write to support@binomai.com with the name of your Binom and the integration (Deputy).
How to tell it is solved: the button shows "Requested".
"Integration temporarily unavailable – your request has been recorded."
Nothing else is needed: the request is saved, and you will receive a notification when Deputy can be connected.
"Reconnection required"
What this means: "The service no longer accepts the saved access, so the assistant is not using it."
What to do: open the Deputy page in More integrations, click "Reconnect", and go through the connection window again.
How to tell it is solved: the status shows "Connected".
"Could not start the connection. Please try again."
What to do: click "Connect" again. If the message keeps appearing, write to support@binomai.com with the name of your Binom, the integration (Deputy) and a screenshot of the message.
How to tell it is solved: the "Connect Deputy" window opens.
"On a paid plan" instead of the connect button
The page will show "Available on a paid plan. Tell us what you need, and we will let you know when it launches." For what each plan includes, see the plans and subscription pricing page, and for how to change your plan, see the guide how to change or upgrade your plan. After changing your plan, return to More integrations and open Deputy again.
"You do not have permission to manage this section."
What this means: only users with the Owner or Admin access level can manage integrations.
What to do: ask the account owner to give you the Admin level or to connect Deputy yourself. More: access levels in a team.
How to tell it is solved: after refreshing the page, the integration settings open.
If the problem is not solved, write to support@binomai.com or send "I want to talk to a person" in the chat with Tutor. Include the name of your Binom, the integration, and a screenshot of the message.
How to disconnect Deputy
On the Deputy page, click "Disconnect". The "Disconnect Deputy?" window will show a warning: "The assistant will lose access to the service. To restore it, the integration will need to be connected again and the access details entered again." Confirm, and the message "Integration disconnected" will appear.
Common questions
Do I need a developer for the Deputy integration?
No. You request Deputy in the Integrations → More integrations section, the Binom team sets up the integration, and then you connect the account yourself and choose the actions.
