BambooHR Integration: Time Off, Leave and Hiring in Chat – BambooHR in Binom

Updated 6 min read 07 / 07
Short answer

How to connect BambooHR to Binom: vacation balance, time-off requests, who is out, job application responses. Available on request.

The BambooHR integration turns your AI employee into an HR assistant for the team. Binom tells people how much time off they have left and who is out, submits time-off requests, and helps with job applications. BambooHR is available on request in the Binom dashboard: Integrations → More integrations → BambooHR.

What Binom can do in BambooHR

Here, Binom refers to your AI employee. After you connect BambooHR, it calls the service's actions when a conversation needs that data. You decide which actions it can use. In the dashboard, each action is labeled: read (Binom only views data), write, or delete (Binom changes or deletes data in BambooHR).

Section What Binom can view What Binom can change
Employees Employees, directory, files Create and update
Time off Requests, time-off types and policies, who is out, balance forecast Time-off request, status change, balance adjustment
Time tracking Time entries, projects Create and update entries
Recruiting Job openings, applications, candidate statuses Job opening, status change, comment
Goals and learning Goals, learning Create and update

Can Binom submit a time-off request in BambooHR?

Yes. An employee tells Binom the dates in the chat, Binom checks the balance ("Estimate Future Time Off Balances"), and creates the request ("Create Time Off Request").

Who is out today

Binom tells the team who is on vacation or sick leave ("List Who's Out") so that everyone can plan their work.

Job applications

At the HR team's request, Binom shows applications ("List Job Applications") and updates a candidate's status ("Update Applicant Status").

What access you will need

You can choose between two connection methods: sign-in via OAuth 2.0 (you log in to your service account and confirm access), or an API key. Details for each method are shown in the "Authentication" block on the BambooHR page in the dashboard.

How to get the BambooHR integration

BambooHR is connected on request: first, the Binom team sets up the integration for your account. For general catalog rules, see the instructions on how to connect a service from "More integrations".

  1. Open Integrations → More integrations, enter "BambooHR" in the "Search integrations" field, and open the BambooHR card.
  2. The "BambooHR integration for assistant" page will show the message "Integration available on request. Request it now, and we will set it up for you as a priority." Assistant here means your Binom. The "Authentication" block shows what access you will need, and the "Actions" list shows everything Binom can do in BambooHR.
  3. Click "Request integration". The message "Request sent. You will get a notification when the integration is available." will appear, and the button will change to "Requested".
  4. A Binom setup specialist will contact you. When the integration is ready, a "Connect" button will appear on the BambooHR page.
  5. Click "Connect," go through the steps in the "Connect BambooHR" window, and click "Done." After "Connecting…", the status will change to "Connected". If you see "Confirmation hasn't arrived yet. The connection may still complete, so check again in a minute.", click "Check again".

How to choose what Binom can do in BambooHR

A connected integration does nothing until you allow actions. The workspace states this directly: "Select the actions the assistant may perform. Until something is selected, it has no access to any of them."

  1. On the BambooHR page, check the actions you need in the "Actions" list. The "Filter by actions" field helps you find them by name. The counter shows how many are selected.
  2. Check the "Ask before changing data" toggle. It is on by default: before any write or delete action, Binom will describe what it intends to do and wait for your confirmation.
  3. Click "Save". The message "Allowed actions saved" confirms the changes.

To get started, "List Who's Out", "List Time Off Types", "Estimate Future Time Off Balances" and "Create Time Off Request" are enough. Add actions that change or delete data when you are ready to let Binom make changes in BambooHR.

How to check that the integration works

  • Start a new conversation with your Binom, for example through a public chat link, ask who is out today, and compare the answer with BambooHR.

Possible issues

Binom does not use BambooHR data in its answers

What to check: that the BambooHR status is "Connected" and that the needed actions are selected (for example "List Time Off Types").
What to do: select the actions and click "Save".
How to tell it is fixed: the message "Allowed actions saved" appears, and in a new conversation Binom answers using BambooHR data.

"Could not save the request. Please try again."

What to do: click "Request integration" again. If the message keeps appearing, write to support@binomai.com with the name of your Binom and the integration (BambooHR).
How to tell it is fixed: the button shows "Requested".

"Integration is temporarily unavailable – your request has been saved."

Nothing more is needed: your request is saved, and you will receive a notification when BambooHR can be connected.

"Reconnection required"

What it means: "The service no longer accepts saved access, so the assistant does not use it."
What to do: open the BambooHR page in More integrations, click "Reconnect" and go through the connection window again.
How to tell it is fixed: the status shows "Connected".

"Could not start the connection. Please try again."

What to do: click "Connect" again. If the message keeps appearing, write to support@binomai.com with the name of your Binom, the integration (BambooHR) and a screenshot of the message.
How to tell it is fixed: the "Connect BambooHR" window opens.

"On a paid plan" instead of the connect button

The page will show "Available on a paid plan. Tell us what you need, and we will notify you when it launches." For what each plan includes, see the plans and subscription pricing page, and for how to change your plan, see the guide how to change or upgrade your plan. After changing your plan, return to More integrations and open BambooHR again.

"You do not have permission to manage this section."

What this means: only users with the Owner or Admin access level can manage integrations.
What to do: ask the account owner to grant you the Admin access level or to connect BambooHR yourself. More details: access levels in the team.
How to tell it's resolved: after refreshing the page, the integration settings open.

If the problem isn't resolved, write to support@binomai.com or send "I want to talk to a human" in the Tutor chat. Include the name of the Binom, the integration, and attach a screenshot of the message.

How to disconnect BambooHR

On the BambooHR page, click "Disconnect". The "Disconnect BambooHR?" window will show a warning: "The assistant will lose access to the service. To restore it, you will need to reconnect the integration and enter the access details again." Confirm, and "Integration disconnected" will appear.

Other common questions

Do I need a programmer to integrate BambooHR?

No. You request BambooHR in the Integrations → More integrations section, the Binom team sets up the integration, and then you connect the account yourself and choose the actions.
