Magento checkout in chat: cart, delivery and order status – Magento integration with Binom

Updated 6 min read 07 / 11
Short answer

How to connect Magento to Binom: cart and checkout within the conversation, delivery cost calculation, order status and stock availability. Available on request.

The Magento integration lets you place an order directly in the conversation: the AI employee builds the cart, calculates shipping and the total, applies a promo code and creates the order, and also reports the order status and stock availability. Magento is available on request in the Binom dashboard: Integrations → More integrations → Magento.

What Binom can do in Magento

Binom here means your AI employee. Once Magento is connected, it calls the service's actions when the conversation needs that data. You decide which actions it can use. In the dashboard, each action is marked: read (Binom only views data), write or delete (Binom changes or deletes data in Magento).

Section What Binom can view What Binom can change
Cart and order Cart, total, shipping and payment methods Guest and customer carts, items, shipping address, order placement
Orders Orders, invoices, shipments, returns Comment, cancellation, invoice, shipment with tracking number, return
Products and stock Products, categories, availability, stock by warehouse Creation and editing, stock
Customers Customers and groups Creation and editing
Promotions Discount rules, promo codes Creating rules, generating promo codes

Can an order be placed in Magento directly in the chat?

Yes. Binom creates a cart ("Create Guest Cart"), adds products ("Add Item To Guest Cart"), calculates shipping ("Estimate Shipping Methods") and the total ("Get Cart Totals"), saves the address ("Set Guest Cart Shipping Information") and places the order ("Place Guest Order").

Order status and stock availability

Binom finds an order ("Get Order") and a shipment ("Search Shipments"), and checks stock availability with the "Check Product Salability" action.

What access will be needed

Connection method: store administrator credentials. Details for each method are shown in the "Authentication" block on the Magento page in the dashboard.

How to get the Magento integration

Magento is connected on request: first, the Binom team sets up the integration for your account. General catalog rules are described in the instructions how to connect a service from "More integrations".

  1. Open Integrations → More integrations, enter "Magento" in the "Search integrations" field and open the Magento card.
  2. On the "Magento integration for assistant" page, you will see the message "The integration is available on request. Request it now, and we will set it up for you as a priority." Assistant here means your Binom. The "Authentication" block shows what access will be needed, and the "Actions" list shows everything Binom can do in Magento.
  3. Click "Request integration". The message "Request sent. You will receive a notification when the integration becomes available." appears, and the button changes to "Requested".
  4. A Binom setup specialist will contact you. When the integration is ready, a "Connect" button will appear on the Magento page.
  5. Click "Connect", go through the steps in the "Connecting Magento" window and click "Done". After "Connecting…", the status will change to "Connected". If the message "Confirmation has not arrived yet. The connection may still complete – check again in a minute." appears, click "Check again".

How to choose what Binom can do in Magento

A connected integration does nothing until you allow actions. The dashboard says it directly: "Select the actions the assistant may perform. Until something is selected, it has no access to any of them."

  1. On the Magento page, check the actions you need in the "Actions" list. The "Filter by actions" field helps you find them by name. The counter shows how many are selected.
  2. Check the "Ask before changing data" toggle. It is on by default: before any write or delete action, Binom will describe what it intends to do and wait for your reply.
  3. Click "Save". The message "Allowed actions saved" confirms your changes.

To get started, "List Products", "Create Guest Cart", "Add Item To Guest Cart" and "Get Order" are enough. Add the update and delete actions when you are ready to let Binom make changes in Magento.

How to check that the integration works

  • Start a new conversation with your Binom, for example through a public chat link, place a test order, and check it in Magento.
  • Cancel the test order after checking it.

Possible problems

Binom does not use Magento data in its answers

What to check: that the Magento status is "Connected" and that the needed actions are selected (for example "Create Guest Cart").
What to do: select the actions and click "Save".
How to tell it is fixed: the message "Allowed actions saved" appears, and in a new conversation Binom answers using Magento data.

"Couldn't record the request. Please try again."

What to do: click "Request integration" again. If the message keeps appearing, write to support@binomai.com with the name of your Binom and the integration (Magento).
How to tell it is fixed: the button shows "Requested".

"Integration is temporarily unavailable – your request has been recorded."

Nothing else needs to be done: the request is saved, and you will get a notification when Magento can be connected.

"Reconnection required"

What this means: "The service no longer accepts saved credentials, so the assistant does not use them."
What to do: open the Magento page under More integrations, click "Reconnect", and go through the connection window again.
How to tell it is fixed: the status shows "Connected".

"Couldn't start the connection. Please try again."

What to do: click "Connect" again. If the message keeps appearing, write to support@binomai.com with the name of your Binom, the integration (Magento), and a screenshot of the message.
How to tell it is fixed: the "Connect Magento" window opens.

"On a paid plan" instead of the connect button

The page will show "Available on a paid plan. Tell us what you need, and we will let you know when it launches." For what each plan includes, see the plans and subscription pricing page, and for how to change your plan, see the guide how to change or upgrade your plan. After changing your plan, return to More integrations and open Magento again.

"You do not have permission to manage this section."

What this means: only users with the Owner or Admin access level can manage integrations.
What to do: ask your account owner to give you the Admin access level or to connect Magento yourself. More: access levels in a team.
How to tell it's resolved: after you refresh the page, the integration settings open.

If the problem persists, write to support@binomai.com or send "I want to talk to a human" in the chat with Binom Tutor. Include the name of the Binom and the integration, and attach a screenshot of the message.

How to disconnect Magento

On the Magento page, click "Disconnect". The "Disconnect Magento?" window will show a warning: "The assistant will lose access to the service. To restore it, you will need to connect the integration again and re-enter the credentials." Confirm, and "Integration disconnected" will appear.

Other common questions

How is this page different from Adobe Commerce?

This is a separate Magento integration for placing orders for guests during a conversation. Adobe Commerce has its own integration for orders, stock levels and promo codes.

Do I need a developer to integrate Magento?

No. You request Magento in Integrations → More integrations, the Binom team sets up the integration, and then you connect the account yourself and choose the actions.
