Trello Tasks from Chat: Client Request Cards – Trello Integration in Binom

Updated 17 min read 16 / 16
Short answer

How to connect Trello to Binom: cards from client requests in conversations, labels, checklists and attachments. Available on request.

The Trello integration with Binom turns requests from chats into tasks: the AI employee creates a card on the right board and in the right list, and adds a label, a checklist, and an attachment. The team sees the request on their familiar board instead of searching for it in the conversation. Trello is available on request in the Binom dashboard: Integrations → More integrations → Trello.

What Binom can do in Trello

Here, Binom means your AI employee. After Trello is connected, it calls the service's actions when the conversation requires that data. You decide which actions are available to it. In the dashboard, each action is marked: read (Binom only views data), write, or delete (Binom changes or deletes data in Trello).

Section What Binom can view What Binom can change
Boards Cards, lists, members, labels and checklists on the board, activity history Creating and editing boards
Lists Board lists Creating a list
Cards Checklists, attachments, members and card history Creating a card, labels, a checklist, a checklist item, an attachment
Labels Board labels Creating a label

From a chat request to a Trello card

  1. Binom finds the lists of the needed board ("List Board Lists").
  2. Creates a card with the essence of the request ("Create Card").
  3. Adds a label ("Create Card Label") and, if needed, a checklist ("Create Checklist").

For example, a client orders a service in the chat, and the team immediately has a card with the contact details and request details.

How to get the Trello integration

Trello is connected on request: first, the Binom team sets up the integration for your account. The general rules of the catalog are described in the instructions how to connect a service from "More integrations".

  1. Open Integrations → More integrations, enter "Trello" in the "Search integrations" field, and open the Trello card.
  2. On the "Trello integration for assistant" page, there will be a message: "The integration is available on request. Request it now, and we will set it up for you as a priority." The assistant here is your Binom. The "Authentication" block shows which access will be needed, and the "Actions" list shows everything Binom can do in Trello.
  3. Click "Request integration". "Request sent. You will receive a notification when the integration becomes available." will appear, and the button will change to "Requested".
  4. A Binom setup specialist will contact you. When the integration is ready, a "Connect" button will appear on the Trello page.
  5. Click "Connect," go through the steps in the "Connecting Trello" window, and click "Done". After "Connecting…", the status will change to "Connected". If "Confirmation hasn't arrived yet. The connection may still complete. Check again in a minute." appears, click "Check again".

How to choose what Binom can do in Trello

A connected integration does nothing until you allow actions. The dashboard states this directly: "Select the actions the assistant may call. Until something is selected, it has no access to any of them."

  1. On the Trello page, check the actions you need in the "Actions" list. The "Filter by actions" field helps you find them by name. The counter shows how many are selected.
  2. Check the "Ask before changing data" toggle. It is on by default: before any write or delete action, Binom describes what it is about to do and waits for your reply.
  3. Click "Save". The message "Allowed actions saved" confirms the changes.

To start, "List Board Lists", "Create Card" and "Create Card Label" are enough. Add the update and delete actions when you are ready to let Binom make changes in Trello.

How to check that the integration works

  • Start a new conversation with your Binom, for example through a public chat link, leave a test request and check the card on the board.
  • Delete the test card after checking.

Possible problems

Binom does not use Trello data in its answers

What to check: that the Trello status is "Connected" and the needed actions are checked (for example "Create Card").
What to do: check the actions and click "Save".
How to tell it is fixed: the message "Allowed actions saved" appears, and in a new conversation Binom answers using Trello data.

"Could not record the request. Please try again."

What to do: click "Request integration" again. If the message keeps appearing, write to support@binomai.com with the name of your Binom and the integration (Trello).
How to tell it is fixed: the button shows "Requested".

"Integration is temporarily unavailable – your request has been recorded."

You don't need to do anything else: the request is saved, and you will get a notification when Trello can be connected.

"Reconnection needed"

What it means: "The service no longer accepts saved access, so the assistant does not use it."
What to do: open the Trello page in More integrations, click "Reconnect" and go through the connection window again.
How to tell it is fixed: the status shows "Connected".

"Could not start the connection. Please try again."

What to do: click "Connect" again. If the message keeps appearing, write to support@binomai.com with the name of your Binom, the integration (Trello) and a screenshot of the message.
How to tell it is fixed: the "Connect Trello" window opens.

"Paid plan" instead of the connect button

The page will show "Available on a paid plan. Tell us what you need, and we will let you know when it launches." For details on what each plan includes, see the plans and subscription pricing page, and for how to switch plans, see the guide how to change or upgrade your plan. After changing your plan, go back to More integrations and open Trello again.

"You don't have permission to manage this section."

What it means: only users with the Owner or Admin access level can manage integrations.
What to do: ask the account owner to give you the Admin access level or to connect Trello yourself. Learn more: access levels in a team.
How to tell it is fixed: after refreshing the page, the integration settings open.

If the problem is not resolved, write to support@binomai.com or send the message "I want to talk to a person" in the chat with Tutor. Include the name of your Binom, the integration, and attach a screenshot of the message.

How to disconnect Trello

On the Trello page, click "Disconnect". The "Disconnect Trello?" window will show a warning: "The assistant will lose access to the service. To restore it, you will need to connect the integration again and re-enter the access details." Confirm, and the message "Integration disconnected" will appear.

Other common questions

Can Binom add a checklist and a label to a card?

Yes, using the actions "Create Checklist", "Create CheckItem", and "Create Card Label".

Do I need a developer to integrate Trello?

No. You request Trello in Integrations → More integrations, the Binom team sets up the integration, and then you connect the account yourself and choose the actions.
