Confluence Integration: Answers from the Wiki and New Pages from Chat – Confluence at Binom

Short answer

How to connect Confluence to Binom: answers from wiki pages, creating pages and comments. Available on request.

The Confluence integration gives your AI employee access to your wiki: Binom answers based on Confluence pages, creates a new page, and leaves a comment. Confluence is available on request in the Binom dashboard: Integrations → More integrations → Confluence.

What Binom can do in Confluence

Binom here refers to your AI employee. After Confluence is connected, it calls the service's actions when a conversation needs that data. You decide which actions it can use. In the dashboard, each action is labeled: read (Binom only views data), write or delete (Binom changes or deletes data in Confluence).

Section What Binom can view What Binom can change
Pages Pages, versions, labels, properties Creating and editing pages, labels
Blog Blog posts Creating and editing
Comments Comments on pages Creating and editing
Spaces and folders Spaces, folders Creating folders
Attachments Attachments Uploading

Can Binom answer based on Confluence pages?

Yes. Binom finds pages ("List Pages"), reads the one you need ("Get Page"), and answers the employee based on its content.

New page and comment

Binom creates a page, for example with meeting notes ("Create Page"), or leaves a comment on an existing one ("Create Footer Comment").

What access you will need

You can choose one of these connection methods: sign-in via OAuth 2.0 (you log in to your service account and confirm access); OAuth 2.0 via a shared app; or an API key. Details for each method are shown in the "Authentication" section on the Confluence page in the dashboard.

How to get the Confluence integration

Confluence is available on request: first, the Binom team sets up the integration for your account. The general catalog rules are described in the instructions how to connect a service from "More integrations".

  1. Open Integrations → More integrations, enter "Confluence" in the "Search integrations" field, and open the Confluence card.
  2. The "Confluence integration for assistant" page will show the message "Integration is available on request. Request it now, and we will set it up for you as a priority." The assistant here is your Binom. The "Authentication" section shows what access you will need, and the "Actions" list shows everything Binom can do in Confluence.
  3. Click "Request integration". The message "Request sent. You will receive a notification when the integration is available." will appear, and the button will change to "Requested".
  4. A Binom setup specialist will contact you. When the integration is ready, a "Connect" button will appear on the Confluence page.
  5. Click "Connect", complete the steps in the "Connecting Confluence" window, and click "Done". After "Connecting…", the status will change to "Connected". If the message "Confirmation has not arrived yet. The connection may still complete, so check again in a minute." appears, click "Check again".

How to choose what Binom can do in Confluence

A connected integration does nothing until you allow actions. The dashboard states this clearly: "Select the actions the assistant may call. Until something is selected, it cannot use any of them."

  1. On the Confluence page, tick the actions you need in the "Actions" list. The "Filter by actions" field helps you find them by name. The counter shows how many are selected.
  2. Check the "Ask before changing data" toggle. It is on by default: before any action that writes or deletes data, Binom will describe what it is about to do and wait for your reply.
  3. Click "Save". The message "Allowed actions saved" confirms the changes.

To start, "List Pages", "Get Page", "Create Page" and "Create Footer Comment" are enough. Add the actions that edit and delete content when you are ready to let Binom make changes in Confluence.

How to check that the integration works

  • Start a new conversation with your Binom, for example via the public chat link, ask a question whose answer is in Confluence, and compare the reply with the page.

Possible issues

Binom does not use Confluence data in its answers

What to check: that the Confluence status is "Connected" and the needed actions are ticked (for example "Get Page").
What to do: tick the actions and click "Save".
How to tell it is resolved: the message "Allowed actions saved" appears, and in a new conversation Binom answers using Confluence data.

"Couldn't record the request. Please try again."

What to do: click "Request integration" again. If the message keeps appearing, write to support@binomai.com with the name of your Binom and the integration (Confluence).
How to tell it is resolved: the button shows "Requested".

"Integration is temporarily unavailable – your request has been recorded."

You don't need to do anything else: your request is saved, and you will get a notification when Confluence can be connected.

"Reconnection required"

What this means: "The service no longer accepts saved access, so the assistant does not use it."
What to do: open the Confluence page in More integrations, click "Reconnect" and go through the connection window again.
How to tell it is resolved: the status shows "Connected".

"Couldn't start the connection. Please try again."

What to do: click "Connect" again. If the message keeps appearing, write to support@binomai.com with the name of your Binom, the integration (Confluence) and a screenshot of the message.
How to tell it is resolved: the "Connect Confluence" window opens.

"On a paid plan" instead of the connect button

The page will show "Available on a paid plan. Tell us what you need, and we will let you know when it launches." For what each plan includes, see the plans and subscription pricing page, and for how to change your plan, see the guide how to change or upgrade your plan. After changing your plan, return to More integrations and open Confluence again.

"You don't have permission to manage this section."

What this means: only users with the Owner or Admin access level can manage integrations.
What to do: ask the account owner to give you the Admin access level or to connect Confluence yourself. More details: access levels in a team.
How to tell it's resolved: after you refresh the page, the integration settings open.

If the problem persists, write to support@binomai.com or send "I want to talk to a person" in the chat with Binom Tutor. Include the name of the Binom, the integration, and attach a screenshot of the message.

How to disconnect Confluence

On the Confluence page, click "Disconnect". The "Disconnect Confluence?" dialog will show a warning: "The assistant will lose access to the service. To restore it, you will need to connect the integration again and re-enter the credentials." Confirm, and the message "Integration disconnected" will appear.

Other common questions

Do I need a developer to integrate Confluence?

No. You request Confluence in the Integrations → More integrations section, the Binom team sets up the integration, and then you connect the account yourself and choose the actions.
