DocuSign Document Signing from Chat: Sending, Link and Status – DocuSign Integration in Binom

Updated 6 min read 03 / 20
Short answer

How to connect DocuSign to Binom: sending a document for signature from a template, the signing link, and signature status. Available on request.

The DocuSign integration with Binom sends documents for signature directly from the conversation: the AI employee creates an envelope from your template, sends it to the client, provides a signing link, and reports whether the document has been signed. DocuSign is available on request in the Binom dashboard: Integrations → More integrations → DocuSign.

What Binom can do in DocuSign

Binom here refers to your AI employee. After you connect DocuSign, it calls the service's actions when the conversation needs that data. You decide which actions are available to it. In the dashboard, each action is marked: read (Binom only views data), write or delete (Binom changes or deletes data in DocuSign).

Section What Binom can view What Binom can change
Envelopes Envelopes, form data, documents Create and send, edit, void a draft
Templates Templates and their recipients Create and edit
Recipients Recipients and signature fields Add, edit, delete
Links None Signing link, sending, editing
Account Brands, groups, users, permission profiles Create and edit

Can a chatbot send a contract for signature via DocuSign?

Yes. Binom selects your template ("List Templates") and creates an envelope with the client's data from the conversation ("Create Envelope"). The client receives the document for signature.

Signing directly from the chat

Binom can give the client a link to sign the document right away ("Get Recipient View URL").

Signature status

The client or a manager asks whether the document has been signed, and Binom checks the envelope ("Get Envelope").

What access you will need

Connection method: sign-in via OAuth 2.0 (you log in to your service account and confirm access). You will need an app in DocuSign Admin with an integration key. Details for each method are shown in the "Authentication" block on the DocuSign page in the dashboard.

How to get the DocuSign integration

DocuSign is connected on request: first, the Binom team sets up the integration for your account. The general catalog rules are described in the instructions how to connect a service from "More integrations".

  1. Open Integrations → More integrations, enter "DocuSign" in the "Search integrations" field, and open the DocuSign card.
  2. The "DocuSign integration for assistant" page will show the message "Integration available on request. Request it now, and we will set it up for you as a priority." Assistant here means your Binom. The "Authentication" block shows what access will be needed, and the "Actions" list shows everything Binom can do in DocuSign.
  3. Click "Request integration". "Request sent. You will receive a notification when the integration is available." will appear, and the button will change to "Requested".
  4. A Binom setup specialist will contact you. When the integration is ready, a "Connect" button will appear on the DocuSign page.
  5. Click "Connect", go through the steps in the "Connecting DocuSign" window, and click "Done". After "Connecting…", the status will change to "Connected". If "Confirmation has not arrived yet. The connection may still complete – check again in a minute." appears, click "Check again".

How to choose what Binom can do in DocuSign

A connected integration does nothing until you allow actions. The workspace says so directly: "Check the actions that the assistant may trigger. Until something is checked, none of them is available to it."

  1. On the DocuSign page, check the actions you need in the "Actions" list. To find them by name, use the "Filter by actions" field. The counter shows how many are selected.
  2. Check the "Ask before changing data" toggle. It is on by default: before any action that writes or deletes, Binom describes what it plans to do and waits for your reply.
  3. Click "Save". The message "Allowed actions saved" confirms the changes.

To get started, "List Templates", "Create Envelope", "Get Envelope" and "List Recipients" are enough. Add the actions that change and delete data when you are ready to let Binom make changes in DocuSign.

How to check that the integration works

  • Start a new chat with your Binom, for example through a public chat link, send yourself a test document based on a template, and check the envelope in DocuSign.
  • Void the test envelope after checking it.

Possible problems

Binom does not use DocuSign data in its answers

What to check: that the DocuSign status is "Connected" and that the needed actions are checked (for example "Create Envelope").
What to do: check the actions and click "Save".
How to tell it is resolved: the message "Allowed actions saved" appears, and in a new chat Binom answers using DocuSign data.

"Could not save your request. Please try again."

What to do: click "Request integration" again. If the message keeps appearing, write to support@binomai.com with the name of your Binom and the integration (DocuSign).
How to tell it is resolved: the button shows "Requested".

"The integration is temporarily unavailable – your request has been recorded."

You don't need to do anything else: the request is saved, and you will receive a notification when DocuSign can be connected.

"Reconnection required"

What this means: "The service no longer accepts saved access, so the assistant does not use it."
What to do: open the DocuSign page in More integrations, click "Reconnect" and go through the connection window again.
How to tell it is resolved: the status shows "Connected".

"Could not start the connection. Please try again."

What to do: click "Connect" again. If the message keeps appearing, write to support@binomai.com with the name of your Binom, the integration (DocuSign) and a screenshot of the message.
How to tell it is resolved: the "Connect DocuSign" window opens.

"On a paid plan" instead of the connect button

The page will show "Available on a paid plan. Tell us what you need, and we will let you know when it launches." For what each plan includes, see the subscription plans and pricing page, and for how to change your plan, see the guide how to change or upgrade your plan. After changing your plan, return to More integrations and open DocuSign again.

"You do not have permission to manage this section."

What this means: only users with the Owner or Admin access level can manage integrations.
What to do: ask the account owner to give you the Admin access level or to connect DocuSign yourself. More: access levels in a team.
How to tell it's resolved: after you refresh the page, the integration settings open.

If the problem persists, write to support@binomai.com or send "I want to talk to a person" in the chat with Binom Tutor. Include the name of the Binom, the integration, and attach a screenshot of the message.

How to disconnect DocuSign

On the DocuSign page, click "Disconnect". The "Disconnect DocuSign?" window will show a warning: "The assistant will lose access to the service. To restore it, you will need to reconnect the integration and enter the credentials again." Confirm, and "Integration disconnected" will appear.

Other common questions

Do I need a developer to integrate DocuSign?

No. You request DocuSign in the Integrations → More integrations section, the Binom team sets up the integration, and then you connect the account yourself and choose the actions.
