GitHub Integration: Issues from Bug Reports – GitHub in Binom

Short answer

How to connect GitHub to Binom: issues from customer messages, search for similar ones, status and comments. Available on request.

The GitHub integration with Binom passes customer bug reports to the development team: your AI employee creates an issue, finds similar ones, and reports its status. GitHub is available on request in your Binom account: Integrations → More integrations → GitHub.

What Binom can do in GitHub

Binom here means your AI employee. After you connect GitHub, it calls the service's actions when the conversation needs that data. You decide which actions it can use. In your account, each action is labeled: read (Binom only views data), write, or delete (Binom changes or deletes data in GitHub).

Section What Binom can view What Binom can change
Issues Issues, search, comments Create, edit, comment
Code Repositories, branches, commits, files Change files, branches
Pull request Pull requests and reviews Create, review, merge
Builds and releases Workflows, deployments, releases Run and restart workflows, releases

Can the chatbot create an issue in GitHub?

Yes. Binom searches for similar issues ("Search Issues") and, if there are none, creates a new one ("Create Issue") with the bug description from the conversation.

Fix status

Binom finds the issue ("Get Issue"), tells the customer its status, and adds details in a comment ("Create Issue Comment").

What access you will need

Connection options to choose from: GitHub App; GitHub App for Enterprise Server; personal access token; personal access token for Enterprise Server. Details for each option are shown in the "Authentication" block on the GitHub page in your account.

How to get the GitHub integration

GitHub is available on request: first, the Binom team sets up the integration for your account. General catalog rules are described in the instructions how to connect a service from "More integrations".

  1. Open Integrations → More integrations, enter "GitHub" in the "Search integrations" field, and open the GitHub card.
  2. The "GitHub integration for assistant" page will show the message "Integration is available on request. Request it now, and we will set it up for you as a priority." The assistant here is your Binom. The "Authentication" block shows which access you will need, and the "Actions" list shows everything Binom can do in GitHub.
  3. Click "Request integration". The message "Request sent. You will receive a notification when the integration is available." will appear, and the button will change to "Requested".
  4. A Binom setup specialist will contact you. When the integration is ready, a "Connect" button will appear on the GitHub page.
  5. Click "Connect," go through the steps in the "Connecting GitHub" window, and click "Done". After "Connecting…", the status will change to "Connected". If you see "Confirmation hasn't arrived yet. The connection may still complete, so check again in a minute.", click "Check again".

How to choose what Binom can do in GitHub

A connected integration does nothing until you allow actions. Your account states this directly: "Select the actions the assistant can call. Until something is selected, it has no access to any of them."

  1. On the GitHub page, check the actions you need in the "Actions" list. The "Filter actions" field helps you find them by name. The counter shows how many are selected.
  2. Check the "Ask before changing data" toggle. It is on by default: before any write or delete action, Binom describes what it plans to do and waits for your reply.
  3. Click "Save". The message "Allowed actions saved" confirms the changes.

To get started, "Search Issues", "Create Issue", "Get Issue" and "Create Issue Comment" are enough. Add the update and delete actions when you are ready to let Binom make changes in GitHub.

How to check that the integration works

  • Start a new chat with your Binom, for example via the public chat link, describe a test bug, and check the issue in GitHub.

Possible problems

Binom does not use GitHub data in its answers

What to check: the GitHub status shows "Connected", and the needed actions are checked (for example "Create Issue").
What to do: check the actions and click "Save".
How to tell it is fixed: the message "Allowed actions saved" appears, and in a new chat Binom answers using GitHub data.

"Couldn't save the request. Please try again."

What to do: click "Request integration" again. If the message keeps appearing, write to support@binomai.com with the name of your Binom and the integration (GitHub).
How to tell it is fixed: the button shows "Requested".

"Integration is temporarily unavailable – your request has been saved."

You don't need to do anything else: the request is saved, and you will get a notification when GitHub can be connected.

"Reconnect required"

What it means: "The service no longer accepts saved access, so the assistant does not use it."
What to do: open the GitHub page in More integrations, click "Reconnect", and go through the connection window again.
How to tell it is fixed: the status shows "Connected".

"Couldn't start the connection. Please try again."

What to do: click "Connect" again. If the message keeps appearing, write to support@binomai.com with the name of your Binom, the integration (GitHub) and a screenshot of the message.
How to tell it is fixed: the "Connect GitHub" window opens.

"On a paid plan" instead of the connect button

The page will show "Available on a paid plan. Tell us what you need, and we will let you know when it launches." For what each plan includes, see the plans and subscription pricing page, and for how to change your plan, see the guide how to change or upgrade your plan. After changing your plan, return to More integrations and open GitHub again.

"You don't have permission to manage this section."

What it means: only users with the Owner or Admin access level can manage integrations.
What to do: ask the account owner to give you the Admin access level or to connect GitHub themselves. For more details, see access levels in a team.
How to tell it is fixed: after refreshing the page, the integration settings open.

If the problem is not resolved, write to support@binomai.com or send the message "I want to talk to a person" in the chat with Tutor. Specify the name of the Binom, the integration, and attach a screenshot of the message.

How to disconnect GitHub

On the GitHub page, click "Disconnect". The "Disconnect GitHub?" window will show a warning: "The assistant will lose access to the service. To restore it, you will need to connect the integration again and re-enter the access details." Confirm, and "Integration disconnected" will appear.

Other common questions

Do I need a programmer to integrate GitHub?

No. You request GitHub in the Integrations → More integrations section, the Binom team sets up the integration, and then you connect the account yourself and choose the actions.
