Specter Integration: Company and Investor Data in Chat – Specter in Binom

Updated 5 min read 13 / 28
Short answer

How to connect Specter to Binom: search and enrich data on companies, people and investors, and build lists. Available on request.

The Specter integration with Binom gives your AI employee data on private companies and investors: Binom finds a company, its funding rounds and growth, people and investors, and adds what it finds to your lists. Specter is available on request in the Binom cabinet: Integrations → More integrations → Specter.

What Binom can do in Specter

Binom here means your AI employee. Once Specter is connected, it calls the service's actions when a conversation needs this data. You decide which actions are available to it. In the cabinet, each action is labeled: read (Binom only views data), write or delete (Binom changes or deletes data in Specter).

Section What Binom can view What Binom can change
Companies Search, profile, funding rounds, competitors, deals, revenue Enrichment, company lists
People Search, profile, email Enrichment, people lists
Investors Search, profile, funding rounds Enrichment, investor lists
Signals News, revenue, hiring, investor interest None
Search Search by name, AI search, saved searches Deleting a saved search

Can Binom find company data in Specter?

Yes. Binom finds a company by name ("Search Companies By Name") or enriches its data ("Enrich Company"), and lists its funding rounds ("List Company Funding Rounds").

Person data by email

Binom enriches a person's profile by email ("Enrich Person By Email") and passes their role and company on to the team.

What access you will need

Connection method: API key. Details for each method are shown in the "Authentication" block on the Specter page in the cabinet.

How to get the Specter integration

Specter is connected on request: first, the Binom team sets up the integration for your account. The general catalog rules are described in the instructions how to connect a service from "More integrations".

  1. Open Integrations → More integrations, enter "Specter" in the "Search integrations" field, and open the Specter card.
  2. On the "Specter integration for assistant" page, you will see the message "Integration available on request. Request it now, and we will set it up for you as a priority." The assistant here is your Binom. The "Authentication" block shows which access will be needed, and the "Actions" list shows everything Binom can do in Specter.
  3. Click "Request integration". The message "Request sent. You will receive a notification when the integration is available." will appear, and the button will change to "Requested".
  4. A Binom setup specialist will contact you. When the integration is ready, a "Connect" button will appear on the Specter page.
  5. Click "Connect", go through the steps in the "Connect Specter" window, and click "Done". After "Connecting…", the status will change to "Connected". If the message "Confirmation has not arrived yet. The connection may still complete, so check again in a minute." appears, click "Check again".

How to choose what Binom can do in Specter

A connected integration does nothing until you allow actions. The cabinet states this clearly: "Select the actions the assistant can call. Until something is selected, it has access to nothing."

  1. On the Specter page, check the boxes next to the actions you need in the "Actions" list. The "Filter actions" field helps you find them by name. The counter shows how many are selected.
  2. Check the "Ask before changing data" toggle. It's on by default: before any action that writes or deletes data, Binom will describe what it plans to do and wait for your approval.
  3. Click "Save". The message "Allowed actions saved" confirms your changes.

To start, "Search Companies By Name", "Enrich Company", and "Enrich Person By Email" are enough. Add actions that change or delete data when you're ready to let Binom make changes in Specter.

How to check that the integration works

  • Start a new chat with your Binom, for example through a public chat link, ask about a company you know, and compare the answer with Specter.

Possible problems

Binom doesn't use Specter data in its answers

What to check: the Specter status is "Connected", and the needed actions are checked (for example, "Enrich Company").
What to do: check the actions and click "Save".
How to tell it's resolved: the message "Allowed actions saved" appears, and in a new chat Binom answers using Specter data.

"Couldn't save your request. Please try again."

What to do: click "Request integration" again. If the message keeps appearing, email support@binomai.com with the name of your Binom and the integration (Specter).
How to tell it's resolved: the button shows "Requested".

"The integration is temporarily unavailable – your request has been saved."

You don't need to do anything else. Your request is saved, and you'll get a notification when Specter is available to connect.

"Reconnect needed"

What this means: "The service no longer accepts saved access, so the assistant doesn't use it."
What to do: open the Specter page in More integrations, click "Reconnect", and go through the connection window again.
How to tell it's resolved: the status shows "Connected".

"Couldn't start the connection. Please try again."

What to do: click "Connect" again. If the message keeps appearing, email support@binomai.com with the name of your Binom, the integration (Specter), and a screenshot of the message.
How to tell it's resolved: the "Connect Specter" window opens.

"On a paid plan" instead of the connect button

The page will show "Available on a paid plan. Tell us what you need, and we'll let you know when it launches." For what each plan includes, see the plans and subscription pricing page. To change your plan, see the guide how to change or upgrade your plan. After changing your plan, return to More integrations and open Specter again.

"You don't have permission to manage this section."

What this means: only users with the Owner or Admin access level can manage integrations.
What to do: ask the account owner to give you the Admin access level or to connect Specter themselves. For more details, see team access levels.
How to tell it's resolved: after refreshing the page, the integration settings open.

If the problem is not resolved, write to support@binomai.com or in the chat with Binom Tutor with the message "I want to talk to a person". Specify the name of the Binom, the integration, and attach a screenshot of the message.

How to disconnect Specter

On the Specter page, click "Disconnect". The "Disconnect Specter?" window will show a warning: "The assistant will lose access to the service. To restore it, you will need to reconnect the integration and enter the access details again." Confirm, and the message "Integration disconnected" will appear.

Other common questions

Do I need a developer to integrate Specter?

No. You request Specter in the Integrations → More integrations section, the Binom team sets up the integration, and then you connect the account yourself and choose the actions.
