How to connect Azure DevOps to Binom: work items from bug reports, fix status, answers from the wiki. Available on request.
Binom's Azure DevOps integration passes customer bug reports to the development team: the AI employee creates a work item with a description, reports its status, and finds answers in the project wiki. Azure DevOps is available on request in your Binom account: Integrations → More integrations → Azure DevOps.
What Binom can do in Azure DevOps
Here, Binom means your AI employee. After you connect Azure DevOps, it calls the service's actions when a conversation needs that data. You decide which actions it can use. In the account, each action is labeled: read (Binom only views data), write or delete (Binom changes or deletes data in Azure DevOps).
| Section | What Binom can view | What Binom can change |
|---|---|---|
| Work items | Items, WIQL queries, types and fields | Create, update, delete |
| Wiki | Wikis and pages | Create and edit pages |
| Code and builds | Repositories, pull requests, builds, pipelines, releases | Pull requests, run a pipeline, build queue |
| Planning | Projects, teams, iterations, backlogs, boards | Create projects and teams |
Can the chatbot create a bug in Azure DevOps?
Yes. When a customer reports an error, Binom creates a work item ("Create Work Item") with a description and steps from the conversation.
Fix status on a customer's request
Binom finds the item ("Get Work Item") and tells the customer what stage it is at. For common questions, Binom can pull answers from the project wiki ("Get Wiki Page").
What access you will need
Connection options to choose from: OAuth 2.0 via Microsoft Entra ID; personal access token. Details for each option are shown in the "Authentication" block on the Azure DevOps page in your account.
How to get the Azure DevOps integration
Azure DevOps is connected on request: first, the Binom team sets up the integration for your account. General catalog rules are described in the instructions how to connect a service from "More integrations".
- Open Integrations → More integrations, enter "Azure DevOps" in the "Search integrations" field, and open the Azure DevOps card.
- The "Azure DevOps integration for assistant" page will show the message "Integration is available on request. Request it now, and we will set it up for you as a priority." Here, the assistant is your Binom. The "Authentication" block shows which access will be needed, and the "Actions" list shows everything Binom can do in Azure DevOps.
- Click "Request integration". The message "Request sent. You will receive a notification when the integration becomes available." appears, and the button changes to "Requested".
- A Binom setup specialist will contact you. When the integration is ready, a "Connect" button will appear on the Azure DevOps page.
- Click "Connect", complete the steps in the "Connect Azure DevOps" window, and click "Done". After "Connecting…", the status will change to "Connected". If you see "Confirmation has not arrived yet. The connection may still complete, so check again in a minute.", click "Check again".
How to choose what Binom can do in Azure DevOps
A connected integration does nothing until you allow actions. The account says this directly: "Select the actions the assistant can call. Until something is selected, it has no access to anything."
- On the Azure DevOps page, tick the actions you need in the Actions list. The Filter by actions field helps you find them by name. The counter shows how many are selected.
- Check the "Ask before changing data" toggle. It is on by default: before any write or delete action, Binom will describe what it is about to do and wait for your confirmation.
- Click "Save". The message "Allowed actions saved" confirms the changes.
To start, "Query Work Items (WIQL)", "Create Work Item", "Get Work Item" and "Get Wiki Page" are enough. Add update and delete actions when you are ready to let Binom make changes in Azure DevOps.
How to check that the integration works
- Start a new conversation with your Binom, for example through a public chat link, and describe a test bug. Then check the work item in Azure DevOps.
- Delete the test item after checking.
Possible issues
Binom does not use Azure DevOps data in its answers
What to check: that the Azure DevOps status shows "Connected" and that the needed actions are ticked (for example "Create Work Item").
What to do: tick the actions and click "Save".
How to tell it is fixed: the message "Allowed actions saved" appears, and in a new conversation Binom answers using Azure DevOps data.
"Could not record the request. Please try again."
What to do: click "Request integration" again. If the message keeps appearing, write to support@binomai.com with the name of your Binom and the integration (Azure DevOps).
How to tell it is fixed: the button shows "Requested".
"The integration is temporarily unavailable – your request has been recorded."
Nothing else is needed: your request is saved, and you will get a notification when Azure DevOps can be connected.
"Reconnection required"
What it means: "The service no longer accepts saved access, so the assistant does not use it."
What to do: open the Azure DevOps page in More integrations, click "Reconnect" and go through the connection window again.
How to tell it is fixed: the status shows "Connected".
"Could not start the connection. Please try again."
What to do: click "Connect" again. If the message keeps appearing, write to support@binomai.com with the name of your Binom, the integration (Azure DevOps) and a screenshot of the message.
How to tell it is fixed: the "Connect Azure DevOps" window opens.
"On a paid plan" instead of the connect button
The page will show "Available on a paid plan. Tell us what you need, and we will let you know when it launches." For what each plan includes, see the plans and subscription pricing page, and for how to change your plan, see the guide how to change or upgrade your plan. After changing your plan, return to More integrations and open Azure DevOps again.
"You do not have permission to manage this section."
What this means: only users with the Owner or Admin access level can manage integrations.
What to do: ask the account owner to give you the Admin access level or to connect Azure DevOps yourself. More details: access levels in a team.
How to tell it's resolved: after refreshing the page, the integration settings open.
If the problem is not resolved, write to support@binomai.com or type "I want to talk to a human" in the chat with Binom Tutor. Include the Binom name, the integration, and attach a screenshot of the message.
How to disconnect Azure DevOps
On the Azure DevOps page, click "Disconnect". The "Disconnect Azure DevOps?" window will show a warning: "The assistant will lose access to the service. To restore it, you will need to connect the integration again and re-enter the access details." Confirm, and "Integration disconnected" will appear.
Other common questions
Do I need a programmer to integrate Azure DevOps?
No. You request Azure DevOps in the Integrations → More integrations section, the Binom team sets up the integration, and then you connect the account yourself and choose the actions.
