Updated 19 min read 09 / 11
Short answer

How to connect BigCommerce to Binom: products and stock levels, order status and shipments, orders, coupons and subscribers. Available on request.

The Binom chatbot for BigCommerce answers customers based on store data: products, variants, stock levels, orders and shipments. Customers can check their order status and tracking number in the conversation, and Binom can place an order, issue a coupon and subscribe the customer to the store's newsletter. BigCommerce is available on request in your Binom account: Integrations → More integrations → BigCommerce.

What Binom can do in BigCommerce

Binom here means your AI employee. After you connect BigCommerce, it calls the service's actions when the conversation needs that data. You decide which actions it can use. In your account, each action is labeled: read (Binom only views data), write or delete (Binom changes or deletes data in BigCommerce).

Section What Binom can view What Binom can change
Products Products, variants, brands, price lists Creating and editing products, variants, brands, price lists
Inventory Warehouses and stock levels at warehouses Setting and adjusting stock levels
Orders Orders filtered by status, date and customer, line items, statuses, shipments Creating an order, changing status, products and addresses, creating a shipment with a tracking number
Customers Customers, wish lists Creating and editing customers and wish lists
Coupons Coupons Creating, editing, deleting a coupon
Subscribers Newsletter subscribers Adding and removing a subscriber
Store Shipping zones, currencies, tax classes, pages Changing shipping zones and pages

Can the chatbot check the order status in BigCommerce?

Yes. Binom finds the order ("Get An Order") and its shipments ("List Order Shipments") and reports the status and shipment details. The answer comes from the store at the moment of the question.

AI sales assistant for BigCommerce

  • Finds products and variants ("Get All Products", "Get All Product Variants By Product ID") and quotes the price.
  • Checks stock levels at warehouses ("Get Inventory At Locations").
  • Places an order ("Create An Order") and, if permitted, creates a coupon ("Create A Coupon").
  • Adds a customer to the newsletter subscribers ("Create A Subscriber") with their consent.

Your Binom's role sets the sales logic. For an online store, the Binom Online Seller role is a good fit.

How to get the BigCommerce integration

BigCommerce is connected on request: first, the Binom team sets up the integration for your account. For general catalog rules, see the instructions on how to connect a service from "More integrations".

  1. Open Integrations → More integrations, enter "BigCommerce" in the "Search integrations" field, and open the BigCommerce card.
  2. The "BigCommerce integration for assistant" page will show the message "The integration is available on request. Request it now, and we will set it up for you as a priority." Here, the assistant is your Binom. The "Authentication" block shows what access will be needed, and the "Actions" list shows everything Binom can do in BigCommerce.
  3. Click "Request integration". The message "Request sent. You will receive a notification when the integration is available." will appear, and the button will change to "Requested".
  4. A Binom setup specialist will contact you. When the integration is ready, a "Connect" button will appear on the BigCommerce page.
  5. Click "Connect", go through the steps in the "Connect BigCommerce" window, and click "Done". After "Connecting…", the status will change to "Connected". If the message "Confirmation has not arrived yet. The connection may still complete, so check again in a minute." appears, click "Check again".

How to choose what Binom can do in BigCommerce

A connected integration does nothing until you allow actions. The dashboard states this clearly: "Select the actions the assistant may trigger. Until something is selected, it has access to none of them."

  1. On the BigCommerce page, tick the actions you need in the "Actions" list. The "Filter by actions" field helps you find them by name. The counter shows how many are selected.
  2. Check the "Ask before changing data" toggle. It is on by default: before any write or delete action, Binom will describe what it plans to do and wait for your reply.
  3. Click "Save". The message "Allowed actions saved" confirms your changes.

To get started, "Get All Products", "Get Inventory At Locations", "Get An Order" and "List Order Shipments" are enough. Add write and delete actions when you are ready to let Binom make changes in BigCommerce.

How to check that the integration works

  • Start a new chat with your Binom, for example through the public chat link, and ask about a product's price and availability. Compare the answer with your store.
  • Ask about a real order and compare the status with BigCommerce.

Possible problems

Binom does not use BigCommerce data in its answers

What to check: the BigCommerce status is "Connected" and the needed actions are selected (for example "Get An Order").
What to do: select the actions and click "Save".
How to tell it is fixed: the message "Allowed actions saved" appears, and in a new chat Binom answers using BigCommerce data.

"Could not record the request. Please try again."

What to do: click "Request integration" again. If the message keeps appearing, write to support@binomai.com with the name of your Binom and the integration (BigCommerce).
How to tell it is fixed: the button shows "Requested".

"Integration temporarily unavailable. Your request has been recorded."

There is nothing else to do: your request is saved, and you will receive a notification when BigCommerce can be connected.

"Reconnection required"

What it means: "The service no longer accepts saved access details, so the assistant can't use them."
What to do: open the BigCommerce page in More integrations, click "Reconnect" and go through the connection window again.
How to tell it's fixed: the status shows "Connected".

"Couldn't start the connection. Please try again."

What to do: click "Connect" again. If the message comes back, write to support@binomai.com with the name of your Binom, the integration (BigCommerce) and a screenshot of the message.
How to tell it's fixed: the "Connect BigCommerce" window opens.

"On a paid plan" instead of the connect button

The page will show "Available on a paid plan. Tell us what you need, and we'll let you know when it launches." For what each plan includes, see the plans and subscription pricing page, and for how to change your plan, see the guide how to change or upgrade your plan. After changing your plan, go back to More integrations and open BigCommerce again.

"You don't have permission to manage this section."

What it means: only users with the Owner or Admin access level can manage integrations.
What to do: ask the account owner to give you the Admin access level or to connect BigCommerce themselves. More details: access levels in a team.
How to tell it's fixed: after refreshing the page, the integration settings open.

If the problem persists, write to support@binomai.com or send "I want to talk to a person" in the Tutor chat. Include the name of your Binom, the integration and a screenshot of the message.

How to disconnect BigCommerce

On the BigCommerce page, click "Disconnect". The "Disconnect BigCommerce?" window will show a warning: "The assistant will lose access to the service. To restore it, the integration will need to be connected again and the access details entered again." Confirm, and "Integration disconnected" will appear.
