FastSpring Integration: Orders, Subscriptions and Refunds from Chat – FastSpring in Binom

Updated 6 min read 04 / 08
Short answer

How to connect FastSpring to Binom: order and subscription status, subscription management, prices with tax, refunds. Available on request.

The FastSpring integration with Binom helps you sell programs and subscriptions: the AI employee answers questions about prices with tax included, finds a customer's order and subscription, sends a link to manage the subscription, and processes refunds. FastSpring is available on request in the Binom cabinet: Integrations → More integrations → FastSpring.

What Binom can do in FastSpring

Binom here refers to your AI employee. After you connect FastSpring, it calls the service's actions when the conversation requires that data. You decide which actions are available to it. In the cabinet, each action is labeled: read (Binom only views data), write, or delete (Binom changes or deletes data in FastSpring).

Section What Binom can view What Binom can change
Orders and refunds Orders, refunds Order tags, full or partial refund
Subscriptions Subscriptions, payment history and plan changes Change, pause, cancel, transfer between accounts
Customers Customer accounts, management link Create and edit
Products and prices Products, prices by country, tax Create products and offers
Promotions and invoices Coupons and codes, invoices, offers Coupons, codes, invoices, offers
Reports Revenue and subscription reports Generate a report

Can the chatbot report the status of an order and subscription in FastSpring?

Yes. Binom finds a customer's order ("Get Order") or subscriptions ("List Subscriptions") and reports their status.

Subscription management and tax-inclusive price

Binom sends the customer a link to manage their account ("Get Account Management URL"), states the price for their country ("Get Product Price"), and provides the estimated tax ("Preview Product Tax").

What access you will need

Connection method: API key. You will need the API login and password from the Developer Tools section in FastSpring. Details for each method are shown in the "Authentication" block on the FastSpring page in the cabinet.

How to get the FastSpring integration

FastSpring is connected on request: first, the Binom team sets up the integration for your account. The general catalog rules are described in the instructions on how to connect a service from "More integrations".

  1. Open Integrations → More integrations, enter "FastSpring" in the "Search integrations" field, and open the FastSpring card.
  2. On the "FastSpring integration for assistant" page, you will see the message "Integration available on request. Request it now, and we will set it up for you as a priority." The assistant here is your Binom. The "Authentication" block shows which access you will need, and the "Actions" list shows everything Binom can do in FastSpring.
  3. Click "Request integration". The message "Request sent. You will receive a notification when the integration is available." will appear, and the button will change to "Requested".
  4. A Binom setup specialist will contact you. When the integration is ready, a "Connect" button will appear on the FastSpring page.
  5. Click "Connect," complete the steps in the "Connecting FastSpring" window, and click "Done". After "Connecting…", the status will change to "Connected". If the message "Confirmation has not arrived yet. The connection may still complete, check again in a minute." appears, click "Check again".

How to choose what Binom can do in FastSpring

A connected integration does nothing until you allow actions. The dashboard says it plainly: "Select the actions the assistant may perform. Until something is selected, it has no access to any of them."

  1. On the FastSpring page, tick the actions you need in the "Actions" list. The "Filter by actions" field helps you find them by name. The counter shows how many are selected.
  2. Check the "Ask before changing data" toggle. It is on by default: before any write or delete action, Binom will describe what it intends to do and wait for your reply.
  3. Click "Save". The message "Allowed actions saved" confirms the changes.

To start, "List Orders", "Get Order", "List Subscriptions" and "Get Account Management URL" are enough. Add the actions that change or delete data when you are ready to let Binom make changes in FastSpring.

How to check that the integration works

  • Start a new conversation with your Binom, for example through a public chat link, ask for the status of a real order, and compare it with FastSpring.

Possible problems

Binom does not use FastSpring data in its answers

What to check: the FastSpring status is "Connected", and the necessary actions are selected (for example "Get Order").
What to do: select the actions and click "Save".
How to tell it is resolved: the message "Allowed actions saved" appears, and in a new conversation Binom answers using FastSpring data.

"Could not record the request. Please try again."

What to do: click "Request integration" again. If the message keeps appearing, write to support@binomai.com with the name of your Binom and the integration (FastSpring).
How to tell it is resolved: the button shows "Requested".

"Integration is temporarily unavailable – your request has been recorded."

You do not need to do anything else: the request is saved, and you will receive a notification when FastSpring can be connected.

"Reconnection required"

What this means: "The service no longer accepts saved access, so the assistant does not use it."
What to do: open the FastSpring page in More integrations, click "Reconnect", and go through the connection window again.
How to tell it is resolved: the status is "Connected".

"Could not start the connection. Please try again."

What to do: click "Connect" again. If the message keeps appearing, write to support@binomai.com with the name of your Binom, the integration (FastSpring), and a screenshot of the message.
How to tell it is resolved: the "FastSpring connection" window opens.

"On a paid plan" instead of the connect button

The page will show "Available on a paid plan. Tell us what you need, and we will let you know when it launches." For what each plan includes, see the subscription plans and pricing page, and for how to change your plan, see the guide how to change or upgrade your plan. After changing your plan, return to More integrations and open FastSpring again.

"You do not have permission to manage this section."

What this means: only users with the Owner or Admin access level can manage integrations.
What to do: ask the account owner to give you the Admin access level or to connect FastSpring yourself. More details: access levels in a team.
How to tell it's resolved: after you refresh the page, the integration settings open.

If the problem is not resolved, write to support@binomai.com or send "I want to talk to a person" in the chat with Binom Tutor. Include the name of the Binom, the integration, and attach a screenshot of the message.

How to disconnect FastSpring

On the FastSpring page, click "Disconnect". The "Disconnect FastSpring?" dialog will show a warning: "The assistant will lose access to the service. To restore it, you will need to reconnect the integration and enter the access details again." Confirm, and "Integration disconnected" will appear.

Other common questions

Can Binom cancel a subscription in FastSpring?

Yes, using the "Cancel Subscription" action, or pause it with "Pause Subscription". If "Ask before changing data" is enabled, it will require confirmation.

Do I need a developer to set up the FastSpring integration?

No. You request FastSpring in Integrations → More integrations, the Binom team sets up the integration, and then you connect the account yourself and choose the actions.
