How to connect Jira to Binom: tasks in the right project, assignment, status, search and comments. Available on request.
The Jira integration passes requests and error reports from chats into your team's tasks: the AI employee creates a task in the right project, assigns the owner, reports the status, and adds a comment. Jira is available on request in the Binom cabinet: Integrations → More integrations → Jira.
What Binom can do in Jira
Binom here means your AI employee. After you connect Jira, it calls the service's actions when a conversation needs that data. You decide which actions it can use. In the cabinet, each action is labeled: read (Binom only views data), write, or delete (Binom changes or deletes data in Jira).
| Section | What Binom can view | What Binom can change |
|---|---|---|
| Issues | Issues, JQL search, history, comments, links | Create, update, assign, comment, link issues |
| Projects | Projects, issue types, statuses, components, versions | Project categories, components |
| Boards | Boards, backlog, sprints | None |
| Filters and dashboards | Filters, dashboards | Create and update |
| Users | Users, groups | Groups and members |
Can a chatbot create a task in Jira?
Yes. Binom selects the project ("List Projects") and the issue type ("List Issue Types"), creates the issue ("Create Issue"), and assigns the owner ("Assign Issue").
Task status and comments
Binom finds the issue ("Get Issue") or similar ones through search ("Search For Issues Using JQL"), states the status, and adds details in a comment ("Create Issue Comment").
What access you will need
You can choose how to connect: sign-in with OAuth 2.0 (you log in to your service account and confirm access); or an API key. Signing in with a key requires your Atlassian email and API token. Details for each method are shown in the "Authentication" block on the Jira page in the cabinet.
How to get the Jira integration
Jira is available on request: first, the Binom team sets up the integration for your account. The general catalog rules are described in the instructions how to connect a service from "More integrations".
- Open Integrations → More integrations, enter "Jira" in the "Search integrations" field, and open the Jira card.
- The "Jira integration for assistant" page will show the message "Integration is available on request. Request it now, and we will set it up for you as a priority." The assistant here is your Binom. The "Authentication" block shows what access you will need, and the "Actions" list shows everything Binom can do in Jira.
- Click "Request integration". The message "Request sent. You will receive a notification when the integration is available." will appear, and the button will change to "Requested".
- A Binom setup specialist will contact you. When the integration is ready, a "Connect" button will appear on the Jira page.
- Click "Connect", go through the steps in the "Connect Jira" window, and click "Done". After "Connecting…", the status will change to "Connected". If you see "Confirmation hasn't arrived yet. The connection may still complete, so check again in a minute.", click "Check again".
How to choose what Binom can do in Jira
The connected integration does nothing until you allow actions. The dashboard states this directly: "Select the actions the assistant may perform. Until something is selected, it has no access to any of them."
- On the Jira page, check the actions you need in the "Actions" list. The "Filter actions" field helps you find them by name. The counter shows how many are selected.
- Check the "Ask before changing data" toggle. It is on by default: before any create, update, or delete action, Binom describes what it is about to do and waits for your reply.
- Click "Save". The message "Allowed actions saved" confirms the changes.
To start, "List Projects", "Search For Issues Using JQL", "Create Issue", and "Create Issue Comment" are enough. Add the update and delete actions when you are ready to let Binom make changes in Jira.
How to check that the integration works
- Start a new conversation with your Binom, for example through a public chat link, describe a test task, and check it in Jira.
Possible problems
Binom does not use Jira data in its answers
What to check: that the Jira status is "Connected" and the needed actions are selected (for example, "Search For Issues Using JQL").
What to do: select the actions and click "Save".
How to tell it is fixed: the message "Allowed actions saved" appears, and in a new conversation Binom answers using Jira data.
"Could not save your request. Please try again."
What to do: click "Request integration" again. If the message keeps appearing, write to support@binomai.com with the name of your Binom and the integration (Jira).
How to tell it is fixed: the button shows "Requested".
"The integration is temporarily unavailable – your request has been saved."
Nothing else is needed: your request is saved, and you will get a notification when Jira can be connected.
"Reconnect needed"
What this means: "The service no longer accepts saved access, so the assistant does not use it."
What to do: open the Jira page under More integrations, click "Reconnect", and go through the connection window again.
How to tell it is fixed: the status shows "Connected".
"Could not start the connection. Please try again."
What to do: click "Connect" again. If the message keeps appearing, write to support@binomai.com with the name of your Binom, the integration (Jira), and a screenshot of the message.
How to tell it is fixed: the "Connect Jira" window opens.
"On a paid plan" instead of the connect button
The page will show "Available on a paid plan. Tell us what you need, and we will let you know when it launches." For what each plan includes, see the plans and subscription pricing page, and for how to change plans, see how to change or upgrade your plan. After changing your plan, return to More integrations and open Jira again.
"You do not have permission to manage this section."
What this means: only users with the Owner or Admin access level can manage integrations.
What to do: ask the account owner to give you the Admin access level or to connect Jira yourself. More details: access levels in a team.
How to tell it's resolved: after you refresh the page, the integration settings open.
If the problem isn't resolved, write to support@binomai.com or send "I want to talk to a person" in the Binom Tutor chat. Include the name of the Binom, the integration, and attach a screenshot of the message.
How to disconnect Jira
On the Jira page, click "Disconnect". The "Disconnect Jira?" window will show a warning: "The assistant will lose access to the service. To restore it, you will need to reconnect the integration and enter the access details again." Confirm, and "Integration disconnected" will appear.
Other common questions
Do I need a developer to integrate Jira?
No. You request Jira in the Integrations → More integrations section, the Binom team sets up the integration, and then you connect the account yourself and choose the actions.
