Recurly Integration: Subscriptions, Renewals and Invoices in Chat – Recurly at Binom

Updated 6 min read 01 / 07
Short answer

How to connect Recurly to Binom: customer subscriptions, next charge, pause and cancellation, invoices. Available on request.

The Recurly integration with Binom handles customer questions about subscriptions and payments: the AI employee finds a customer's subscriptions, shows the next charge, pauses or cancels the subscription, and finds an invoice. Recurly is available on request in the Binom dashboard: Integrations → More integrations → Recurly.

What Binom can do in Recurly

Binom here refers to your AI employee. After Recurly is connected, it calls the service's actions when a conversation needs that data. You decide which actions it can use. In the dashboard, each action is marked: read (Binom only views data), write, or delete (Binom changes or deletes data in Recurly).

Section What Binom can view What Binom can change
Accounts Accounts, balance, billing details Creation and changes, deactivation
Subscriptions Subscriptions, renewal forecast Creation, changes, pause, resume, cancellation
Invoices and payments Invoices, transactions, credits Charging an invoice, voiding, markings
Coupons Coupons and their redemptions Creation and changes
Plans and products Plans, add-ons, products Creation and changes

Can the chatbot answer questions about a subscription in Recurly?

Yes. Binom finds a customer's subscriptions ("List Account Subscriptions") and shows when the next charge will happen and for what amount ("Get Subscription Renewal Preview").

Pausing and cancelling a subscription

At the customer's request, Binom pauses the subscription ("Pause Subscription") or cancels it ("Cancel Subscription"), with confirmation when "Ask before changing data" is turned on.

Customer invoices

Binom finds a customer's invoices ("List Account Invoices") and reports their status.

What access you will need

Connection method: API key. You will need a Recurly API key. Details for each method are shown in the "Authentication" section on the Recurly page in the dashboard.

How to get the Recurly integration

Recurly is connected on request: first, the Binom team sets up the integration for your account. The general catalog rules are described in the instructions how to connect a service from "More integrations".

  1. Open Integrations → More integrations, enter "Recurly" in the "Search integrations" field, and open the Recurly card.
  2. On the "Recurly integration for assistant" page, you will see the message "Integration available on request. Request it now, and we will set it up for you as a priority." The assistant here is your Binom. The "Authentication" section shows what access is needed, and the "Actions" list shows everything Binom can do in Recurly.
  3. Click "Request integration". The message "Request sent. You will receive a notification when the integration is available." appears, and the button changes to "Requested".
  4. A Binom setup specialist will contact you. When the integration is ready, a "Connect" button will appear on the Recurly page.
  5. Click "Connect", complete the steps in the "Connecting Recurly" window, and click "Done". After "Connecting…", the status will change to "Connected". If the message "Confirmation has not arrived yet. The connection may still complete – check again in a minute." appears, click "Check again".

How to choose what Binom can do in Recurly

The connected integration does nothing until you allow actions. The dashboard says it directly: "Select the actions that the assistant may perform. Until something is selected, it has no access to any of them."

  1. On the Recurly page, check the actions you need in the "Actions" list. The "Filter actions" field helps you find them by name. The counter shows how many are selected.
  2. Check the "Ask before changing data" toggle. It is on by default: before any action that writes or deletes data, Binom will describe what it plans to do and wait for your reply.
  3. Click "Save". The message "Allowed actions saved" confirms the changes.

To start, "Get Account", "List Account Subscriptions", "Get Subscription Renewal Preview" and "List Account Invoices" are enough. Add actions that change or delete data when you are ready to let Binom make changes in Recurly.

How to check that the integration works

  • Start a new conversation with your Binom, for example through a public chat link, ask about a test customer's subscription, and compare the answer with Recurly.

Possible problems

Binom does not use Recurly data in its answers

What to check: that the Recurly status is "Connected" and that the needed actions are selected (for example, "List Account Subscriptions").
What to do: select the actions and click "Save".
How to tell it is resolved: the message "Allowed actions saved" appears, and in a new conversation Binom answers using Recurly data.

"Could not record the request. Please try again."

What to do: click "Request integration" again. If the message keeps appearing, write to support@binomai.com with the name of your Binom and the integration (Recurly).
How to tell it is resolved: the button shows "Requested".

"Integration is temporarily unavailable – your request has been recorded."

You don't need to do anything else: your request is saved, and you will receive a notification when Recurly can be connected.

"Reconnection required"

What this means: "The service no longer accepts saved access, so the assistant does not use it."
What to do: open the Recurly page in More integrations, click "Reconnect", and go through the connection window again.
How to tell it is resolved: the status shows "Connected".

"Could not start the connection. Please try again."

What to do: click "Connect" again. If the message keeps appearing, write to support@binomai.com with the name of your Binom, the integration (Recurly), and a screenshot of the message.
How to tell it is resolved: the "Connect Recurly" window opens.

"On a paid plan" instead of the connect button

The page will show "Available on a paid plan. Tell us what you need, and we will let you know when it launches." For what each plan includes, see the plans and subscription pricing page, and for how to change your plan, see the guide how to change or upgrade your plan. After changing your plan, return to More integrations and open Recurly again.

"You do not have permission to manage this section."

What this means: only users with the Owner or Admin access level can manage integrations.
What to do: ask the account owner to give you the Admin access level or to connect Recurly yourself. More details: access levels in a team.
How to tell it's resolved: after you refresh the page, the integration settings open.

If the problem persists, write to support@binomai.com or, in the chat with Binom Tutor, type "I want to talk to a person". Include the name of the Binom, the integration, and attach a screenshot of the message.

How to disconnect Recurly

On the Recurly page, click "Disconnect". The "Disconnect Recurly?" window will show a warning: "The assistant will lose access to the service. To restore it, you will need to connect the integration again and re-enter the credentials." Confirm, and "Integration disconnected" will appear.

Other common questions

Do I need a developer to integrate Recurly?

No. You request Recurly in the Integrations → More integrations section, the Binom team sets up the integration, and then you connect the account yourself and choose the actions.
