How to Upload FAQ to a Chatbot from a Spreadsheet – Importing Cards into Binom via “CSV Import”

You can import your FAQ into the Binom chatbot from a spreadsheet with the "Import CSV" button in the "Cards" section: each row of the file becomes a knowledge card with a question and an answer. This way you move hundreds of ready questions and answers at once, and Binom starts learning from them right away. The "Export CSV" button downloads all cards to a file.

How to prepare the file

  1. Open Cards and click "Export CSV". A file with all the cards of your Binom will be downloaded.
  2. Use this file as a template: it already has the correct column names and order. If you don't have any cards yet, create one manually (how to add a card) and export it.
  3. Add your questions and answers as new rows, keeping the template's columns. Save the spreadsheet in CSV format.

How to import questions and answers from a CSV

  1. In Cards, click "Import CSV" and select a file with the .csv extension.
  2. A message "Import queued" and an "Task ID" number will appear. The cards are created in the background, so you can close the page.
  3. After a while, refresh the page: the new cards will appear in the list and go through training until they reach the "Learned" status.

What happens when you import again

Re-importing updates the knowledge base rather than replacing it:

  • cards that already exist in Binom are updated with the data from the file;
  • cards that are not yet in Binom are added;
  • cards that are missing from the new file are not deleted. Delete unneeded cards manually in Cards using the "Delete selected" button.

So the most convenient approach is: "Export CSV", edit the spreadsheet, then "Import CSV" the same file.

How to check the result

Possible issues

"Failed to import cards"

What to check: the file is saved in CSV format and its columns match the file from "Export CSV".
What to do: export a fresh template, move your data into it, and import again.
How to tell it's fixed: the "Import queued" message appears.

"Failed to export cards"

Refresh the page and click "Export CSV" again. If the error repeats, contact support (below).

There is no "Import CSV" button

Import is available to the Owner, Admin, and Editor access levels; everyone else sees only the "Export CSV" button. Ask the account owner to upgrade your access level: team access levels.

If the problem persists, write to support@binomai.com or send "I want to talk to a human" in the Tutor chat. Include the Binom name, the file or card name, and attach a screenshot of the message.

Other frequently asked questions

Will re-importing delete the old cards?

No. The import updates the matching cards and adds new ones, while extra cards need to be deleted manually in Cards.

Can I make a backup of the knowledge base?

Yes, the "Export CSV" button in Cards exports all cards to a file.

How is importing cards different from uploading a price list?

Cards are questions and answers. Products and prices are uploaded separately in Price Lists: how to upload products manually or through a spreadsheet.
