How to connect Twilio to Binom: SMS and MMS to customers with confirmations and reminders after a conversation. Available on request.
The Twilio integration lets your AI employee send clients SMS and MMS messages: confirmations, reminders, and links based on the conversation. The client gets important information on their phone, even if they closed the chat. Twilio is available on request in your Binom account: Integrations → More integrations → Twilio.
What Binom can do with Twilio
Binom here means your AI employee. After you connect Twilio, it calls the service's actions when the conversation needs that data. You decide which actions are available to it. In your account, each action is labeled: read (Binom only views data), write, or delete (Binom changes or deletes data in Twilio).
| Section | What Binom can view | What Binom can change |
|---|---|---|
| Messages | The message and its attachments | Sending SMS or MMS, canceling a scheduled message, hiding message text, deleting |
| Conversations | Messages in a conversation | Creating, editing, and deleting a message in a conversation |
SMS to a client after a conversation
Yes. Using the "Create Message" action, Binom sends an SMS or MMS to the client's number from your Twilio number. For example, Binom can send the address and time of an appointment, an order number, or a link agreed on in the chat. Binom takes the client's number from the conversation, so with "Ask before changing data" turned on, the message is sent only after you respond.
Does Twilio replace the telephony connection in Binom?
No. The Twilio integration gives Binom actions for messages. For your AI employee to receive and make calls, use a SIP trunk connection.
How to get the Twilio integration
Twilio is available on request: first, the Binom team sets up the integration for your account. The general catalog rules are described in the guide how to connect a service from More integrations.
- Open Integrations → More integrations, enter "Twilio" in the "Search integrations" field, and open the Twilio card.
- The "Twilio integration for assistant" page will show the message "Integration is available on request. Request it now, and we will set it up for you as a priority." The assistant here is your Binom. The "Authentication" block shows which access will be needed, and the "Actions" list shows everything Binom can do in Twilio.
- Click "Request integration". The message "Request sent. You will receive a notification when the integration is available." will appear, and the button will change to "Requested".
- A Binom setup specialist will contact you. When the integration is ready, a "Connect" button will appear on the Twilio page.
- Click "Connect," go through the steps in the "Connecting Twilio" window, and click "Done." After "Connecting…", the status will change to "Connected". If you see "Confirmation hasn't arrived yet. The connection may still complete, so check again in a minute.", click "Check again".
How to choose what Binom can do in Twilio
A connected integration does nothing until you allow actions. Your account states this clearly: "Select the actions the assistant may trigger. Until you select something, it cannot use any of them."
- On the Twilio page, check the actions you want in the "Actions" list. The "Filter actions" field helps you find them by name. The counter shows how many are selected.
- Check the "Ask before changing data" toggle. It is on by default: before a write or delete action, Binom will describe what it plans to do and wait for your response.
- Click "Save". The message "Allowed actions saved" confirms your changes.
To get started, "Create Message" and "Get Message" are enough. Add update and delete actions when you're ready to let Binom make changes in Twilio.
How to check that the integration works
- Start a new chat with your Binom, for example through the public chat link, leave your number, and ask it to send you a confirmation by SMS. Check the message on your phone.
Possible issues
Binom doesn't use Twilio data in its replies
What to check: that the Twilio status is "Connected" and the right actions are checked (for example, "Create Message").
What to do: check the actions and click "Save".
How to tell it's fixed: the message "Allowed actions saved" appears, and in a new chat Binom answers using Twilio data.
"Couldn't save your request. Please try again."
What to do: click "Request integration" again. If the message keeps appearing, write to support@binomai.com with the name of your Binom and the integration (Twilio).
How to tell it's fixed: the button shows "Requested".
"Integration is temporarily unavailable – your request has been saved."
Nothing else is needed: your request is saved, and you will get a notification when Twilio is available to connect.
"Reconnect required"
What this means: "The service no longer accepts saved access, so the assistant does not use it."
What to do: open the Twilio page in More integrations, click "Reconnect", and go through the connection window again.
How to tell it's fixed: the status shows "Connected".
"Couldn't start the connection. Please try again."
What to do: click "Connect" again. If the message keeps appearing, write to support@binomai.com with the name of your Binom, the integration (Twilio), and a screenshot of the message.
How to tell it's fixed: the "Connect Twilio" window opens.
"Paid plan" instead of the connect button
The page will show "Available on a paid plan. Tell us what you need, and we'll let you know when it launches." For what each plan includes, see the plans and subscription pricing page. To change your plan, see the guide how to change or upgrade your plan. After changing your plan, return to More integrations and open Twilio again.
"You don't have permission to manage this section."
What this means: only users with the Owner or Admin access level can manage integrations.
What to do: ask the account owner to give you the Admin access level or to connect Twilio themselves. For more details, see team access levels.
How to tell it's fixed: after refreshing the page, the integration settings open.
If the problem is not resolved, write to support@binomai.com or send the message "I want to talk to a person" in the chat with Tutor. Specify the Binom name and the integration, and attach a screenshot of the message.
How to disconnect Twilio
On the Twilio page, click "Disconnect". The "Disconnect Twilio?" window will show a warning: "The assistant will lose access to the service. To restore it, you will need to connect the integration again and re-enter the credentials." Confirm, and "Integration disconnected" will appear.
Other common questions
Do I need a developer to integrate Twilio?
No. You request Twilio in the Integrations → More integrations section, the Binom team sets up the integration, and then you connect the account yourself and choose the actions.
