# ShipStation Integration: Order Status and Delivery in Chat - ShipStation in Binom

*Updated: 22.10.2026, 16:48 UTC*

The ShipStation integration with Binom answers the customer question "where is my order": the AI employee finds the order, shares its status and shipping details, calculates shipping costs, and holds the order if the customer asks. ShipStation is available on request in your Binom account: Integrations → More integrations → ShipStation.

## What Binom can do in ShipStation

Binom here means your AI employee. After you connect ShipStation, it calls the service's actions when a conversation needs that data. You decide which actions it can use. In your account, each action is labeled: **read** (Binom only views data), **write**, or **delete** (Binom changes or deletes data in ShipStation).

| Section | What Binom can view | What Binom can change |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Orders | Orders, search, orders by tag | Create or update, mark as shipped, tags, delay until a date, restore |
| Shipments | Shipments, shipping rates | Create and void labels |
| Carriers | Carriers, their services and packages | Top up carrier account |
| Products and customers | Products, customers | Update product |
| Stores and warehouses | Stores, shipping warehouses | Create and update |

## Can the chatbot tell where an order is in ShipStation?

Yes. Binom finds an order by order number or email ("List Orders"), tells its status ("Get Order"), and shares shipping details ("List Shipments").

## Shipping costs

When a customer asks how much shipping costs, Binom calculates the cost across carriers ("Get Shipping Rates").

## Hold an order

If a customer asks to ship later, Binom holds the order until the requested date ("Hold Order Until").

## What access you will need

Connection method: API key. The ShipStation account owner creates the keys, and a Standard plan or higher is required. Details for each method are shown in the "Authentication" block on the ShipStation page in your account.

## How to get the ShipStation integration

ShipStation is connected on request: first, the Binom team sets up the integration for your account. The general catalog rules are described in the guide [how to connect a service from "More integrations"](https://binomai.com/faq/connect-service-to-chatbot/).

1. Open [Integrations → More integrations](https://app.binomai.com/cabinet/binom/integrations?tab=14), type "ShipStation" in the "Search integrations" field, and open the ShipStation card.
2. On the "ShipStation integration for assistant" page, you will see the message "Integration is available on request. Request it now, and we will set it up for you as a priority." Assistant here means your Binom. The "Authentication" block shows which access you will need, and the "Actions" list shows everything Binom can do in ShipStation.
3. Click "Request integration." The message "Request sent. You will receive a notification when the integration is available" appears, and the button changes to "Requested."
4. A Binom setup specialist will contact you. When the integration is ready, a "Connect" button will appear on the ShipStation page.
5. Click "Connect," follow the steps in the "Connect ShipStation" window, and click "Done." After "Connecting...," the status changes to "Connected." If you see "Confirmation has not arrived yet. The connection may still complete, so check again in a minute," click "Check again."

## How to choose what Binom can do in ShipStation

A connected integration does nothing until you allow actions. Your account states this clearly: "Select the actions the assistant can call. Until something is selected, it cannot use any of them."

1. On the ShipStation page, check the actions you need in the "Actions" list. The "Filter actions" field helps you find them by name. The counter shows how many are selected.
2. Check the "Ask before changing data" toggle. It is on by default: before a write or delete action, Binom describes what it plans to do and waits for your response.
3. Click "Save." The message "Allowed actions saved" confirms the changes.

To start, "List Orders," "Get Order," "List Shipments," and "Get Shipping Rates" are enough. Add write and delete actions when you are ready to let Binom change data in ShipStation.

## How to check that the integration works

- Start a new conversation with your Binom, for example through a [public chat link](https://binomai.com/faq/public-chat-link/), ask about a real order by its number, and compare the status with ShipStation.

## Possible issues

### Binom does not use ShipStation data in its answers

**What to check:** the ShipStation status is "Connected," and the needed actions are selected (for example, "Get Order").
**What to do:** select the actions and click "Save."
**How to tell it is fixed:** the message "Allowed actions saved" appears, and in a new conversation Binom answers using ShipStation data.

### "Could not save the request. Please try again."

**What to do:** click "Request integration" again. If the message keeps appearing, write to support@binomai.com with the name of your Binom and the integration (ShipStation).
**How to tell it is fixed:** the button shows "Requested."

### "Integration is temporarily unavailable. Your request has been saved."

Nothing else is needed: your request is saved, and you will receive a notification when ShipStation can be connected.

### "Reconnect required"

**What it means:** "The service no longer accepts the saved access, so the assistant does not use it."
**What to do:** open the ShipStation page in [More integrations](https://app.binomai.com/cabinet/binom/integrations?tab=14), click "Reconnect," and go through the connection window again.
**How to tell it is fixed:** the status shows "Connected."

### "Could not start the connection. Please try again."

**What to do:** click "Connect" again. If the message keeps appearing, write to support@binomai.com with the name of your Binom, the integration (ShipStation), and a screenshot of the message.
**How to tell it is fixed:** the "Connect ShipStation" window opens.

### "On a paid plan" instead of the connect button

The page will show "Available on a paid plan. Tell us what you need, and we will let you know when it launches." For what each plan includes, see the [plans and subscription pricing](https://app.binomai.com/plans) page. For how to change your plan, see the guide [how to change or upgrade your plan](https://binomai.com/faq/change-subscription-plan/). After changing your plan, return to [More integrations](https://app.binomai.com/cabinet/binom/integrations?tab=14) and open ShipStation again.

### "You do not have permission to manage this section."

**What it means:** only users with the Owner or Admin access level can manage integrations.
**What to do:** ask the account owner to give you the Admin access level or to connect ShipStation themselves. More: [access levels in a team](https://binomai.com/faq/kak-raspredelit-obyazannosti-v-komande-s-pomoshhyu-pyati-urovnej-dostupa-owner-admin-editor-operator-viewer/).
**How to tell it is fixed:** after refreshing the page, the integration settings open.

If the problem is not solved, write to support@binomai.com or send "I want to talk to a person" in the [Binom Tutor](https://app.binomai.com/cabinet/binom/binom-tutor-stream) chat. Include the name of your Binom and the integration, and attach a screenshot of the message.

## How to disconnect ShipStation

On the ShipStation page, click "Disconnect." The "Disconnect ShipStation?" window shows a warning: "The assistant will lose access to the service. To restore it, you will need to connect the integration again and re-enter the access details." Confirm, and "Integration disconnected" appears.

## Other common questions

### Do I need a developer for the ShipStation integration?

No. You request ShipStation in the [Integrations → More integrations](https://app.binomai.com/cabinet/binom/integrations?tab=14) section, the Binom team sets up the integration, and then you connect the account yourself and choose the actions.
