# Intercom Integration: Knowledge Base, Conversations and Handoff to Operator - Intercom with Binom

*Updated: 21.10.2026, 11:05 UTC*

The Intercom integration with Binom connects your AI employee with your support in Intercom: Binom finds and creates contacts, answers based on help center articles, creates tickets, and hands the conversation over to your team. Customers get an answer right away, and complex questions reach the right agent with context. Intercom is available on request in your Binom account: Integrations → More integrations → Intercom.

## What Binom can do in Intercom

Here, Binom means your AI employee. After you connect Intercom, it calls the service's actions when a conversation needs that data. You decide which actions it has access to. In the account, each action is marked: **read** (Binom only views data), **write**, or **delete** (Binom changes or deletes data in Intercom).

| Section | What Binom can view | What Binom can change |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Contacts | Contacts, search, companies, segments, tags | Create, update, merge, archive, notes, tags |
| Conversations | Conversations, search | Create, reply, close, open, snooze, assign, convert to ticket |
| Tickets | Tickets, search, ticket types and states | Create, update, reply |
| Knowledge base | Help Center articles, collections, internal articles | Create and update articles |
| Companies | Companies and their contacts | Create or update, attach contact |
| Messages and events | User events | Message to a contact from an admin, event |
| Calls | Calls, recordings, transcripts | None |
| Team | Admins and teams | Admin away status |

## Answers based on the Intercom knowledge base

Yes. Binom searches Help Center articles ("Search Articles") and answers the customer based on their content. If there is no article, Binom can create a draft internal article ("Create Internal Article") for the team.

## Handing the conversation over to an agent

Yes. Using the "Assign Conversation" action, Binom assigns the conversation to an admin or team, and "Convert Conversation To Ticket" turns it into a ticket. Before that, Binom adds a note with the essence of the conversation to the contact ("Create Contact Note") and a topic tag ("Add Tag To Conversation").

## Contacts and tickets from the chat

Binom finds the customer ("Search Contacts") or creates them ("Create Contact"), and for a complex problem opens a ticket ("Create Ticket") and later reports its status.

## How to get the Intercom integration

Intercom is connected on request: first, the Binom team sets up the integration for your account. The general catalog rules are described in the instructions [how to connect a service from "More integrations"](https://binomai.com/faq/connect-service-to-chatbot/).

1. Open [Integrations → More integrations](https://app.binomai.com/cabinet/binom/integrations?tab=14), type "Intercom" in the "Search integrations" field, and open the Intercom card.
2. The "Intercom integration for your assistant" page will show the message "Integration is available on request. Request it now, and we will set it up for you as a priority." The assistant here is your Binom. The "Authentication" block shows what access will be needed, and the "Actions" list shows everything Binom can do in Intercom.
3. Click "Request integration". The message "Request sent. You will get a notification when the integration is available." will appear, and the button will change to "Requested".
4. A Binom setup specialist will contact you. When the integration is ready, a "Connect" button will appear on the Intercom page.
5. Click "Connect", go through the steps in the "Connect Intercom" window, and click "Done". After "Connecting...", the status will change to "Connected". If you see "Confirmation has not arrived yet. The connection may still complete, so check again in a minute.", click "Check again".

## How to choose what Binom can do in Intercom

A connected integration does nothing until you allow actions. The dashboard states this clearly: "Select the actions the assistant may trigger. Until something is selected, the assistant has no access to any of them."

1. On the Intercom page, tick the actions you need in the "Actions" list. The "Filter actions" field helps you find them by name. The counter shows how many are selected.
2. Check the "Ask before changing data" toggle. It is on by default: before any action that writes or deletes data, Binom will describe what it plans to do and wait for your reply.
3. Click "Save". The message "Allowed actions saved" confirms the changes.

To get started, "Search Contacts", "Create Contact", "Search Articles" and "Create Ticket" are enough. Add actions that change or delete data when you are ready to trust Binom with changes in Intercom.

## How to check that the integration works

- Start a new conversation with your Binom, for example through the [public chat link](https://binomai.com/faq/public-chat-link/), and ask a question that has an article in the Help Center. Compare the answer with the article.
- Describe a test problem and check that a ticket has appeared in Intercom.

## Possible issues

### Binom does not use Intercom data in its answers

**What to check:** the Intercom status is "Connected", and the needed actions are selected (for example "Search Articles").
**What to do:** select the actions and click "Save".
**How to tell it is resolved:** the message "Allowed actions saved" appears, and in a new conversation Binom answers using Intercom data.

### "Could not save the request. Please try again."

**What to do:** click "Request integration" again. If the message keeps appearing, write to support@binomai.com with the name of your Binom and the integration (Intercom).
**How to tell it is resolved:** the button shows "Requested".

### "Integration temporarily unavailable: your request has been saved."

Nothing else is needed: the request is saved, and you will get a notification when Intercom can be connected.

### "Reconnection required"

**What this means:** "The service no longer accepts saved access credentials, so the assistant doesn't use them."
**What to do:** open the Intercom page in [More integrations](https://app.binomai.com/cabinet/binom/integrations?tab=14), click "Reconnect," and go through the connection window again.
**How to tell it's fixed:** the status shows "Connected."

### "Couldn't start the connection. Please try again."

**What to do:** click "Connect" again. If the message keeps appearing, write to support@binomai.com: the name of your Binom, the integration (Intercom), and a screenshot of the message.
**How to tell it's fixed:** the "Connect Intercom" window opens.

### "On a paid plan" appears instead of the connect button

The page will show "Available on a paid plan. Tell us what you need, and we'll let you know when it launches." For what each plan includes, see the [plans and subscription pricing](https://app.binomai.com/plans) page. To learn how to change your plan, see the guide [how to change or upgrade your plan](https://binomai.com/faq/change-subscription-plan/). After changing your plan, return to [More integrations](https://app.binomai.com/cabinet/binom/integrations?tab=14) and open Intercom again.

### "You don't have permission to manage this section."

**What this means:** only users with the Owner or Admin access level can manage integrations.
**What to do:** ask the account owner to give you the Admin access level or to connect Intercom themselves. For more details, see [access levels in a team](https://binomai.com/faq/kak-raspredelit-obyazannosti-v-komande-s-pomoshhyu-pyati-urovnej-dostupa-owner-admin-editor-operator-viewer/).
**How to tell it's fixed:** after refreshing the page, the integration settings open.

If the problem isn't resolved, write to support@binomai.com or send "I want to talk to a person" in the [Tutor](https://app.binomai.com/cabinet/binom/binom-tutor-stream) chat. Include the name of your Binom, the integration, and a screenshot of the message.

## How to disconnect Intercom

On the Intercom page, click "Disconnect." The "Disconnect Intercom?" window will show a warning: "The assistant will lose access to the service. To restore it, you'll need to reconnect the integration and enter the credentials again." Confirm, and the message "Integration disconnected" will appear.

## Other common questions

### Do I need a developer to integrate Intercom?

No. You request Intercom in [Integrations → More integrations](https://app.binomai.com/cabinet/binom/integrations?tab=14), the Binom team sets up the integration, and then you connect the account yourself and choose the actions.
