# Google Maps Integration: Address Check and Routes in Chat - Google Maps in Binom

*Updated: 22.10.2026, 21:11 UTC*

The Google Maps integration with Binom answers questions about locations and routes: your AI employee checks delivery addresses, finds the nearest location, calculates travel time, and suggests the time zone. Google Maps is available on request in your Binom account: Integrations → More integrations → Google Maps.

## What Binom can do with Google Maps

Binom here means your AI employee. After you connect Google Maps, it calls the service's actions when a conversation needs that data. You decide which actions it can use. In the account, each action is marked: **read** (Binom only views data), **write** or **delete** (Binom changes or deletes data in Google Maps).

| Section | What Binom can view | What Binom can change |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Addresses | Address validation, coordinates from an address, and address from coordinates | No |
| Places | Place search, nearby places, details, photos | No |
| Routes | Route, distance and time, route matrix | No |
| Weather and environment | Weather, air quality, pollen | No |
| Other | Time zone, elevation, maps | No |

## Can a chatbot check a delivery address through Google Maps?

Yes. Binom checks the address the customer gave ("Validate Address") and asks for clarification if there is an error in it. This reduces returns caused by incorrect addresses.

## How to get there and how long the trip takes

Binom finds your nearest location ("Text Search (Places)") and calculates the route and travel time ("Compute Routes").

## Customer's time zone

To schedule a call at a convenient time, Binom determines the time zone of the customer's location ("Get Time Zone").

## What access you will need

Connection method: API key. You will need a Google Maps Platform API key with the required APIs enabled. Details for each method are shown in the "Authentication" block on the Google Maps page in your account.

## How to get the Google Maps integration

Google Maps is connected on request: first, the Binom team sets up the integration for your account. The general catalog rules are described in the instructions [how to connect a service from "More integrations"](https://binomai.com/faq/connect-service-to-chatbot/).

1. Open [Integrations → More integrations](https://app.binomai.com/cabinet/binom/integrations?tab=14), enter "Google Maps" in the "Search integrations" field, and open the Google Maps card.
2. On the "Google Maps integration for assistant" page, you will see the message "Integration available on request. Request it now, and we will set it up for you as a priority." The assistant here is your Binom. The "Authentication" block shows what access you will need, and the "Actions" list shows everything Binom can do in Google Maps.
3. Click "Request integration". The message "Request sent. You will receive a notification when the integration is available." appears, and the button changes to "Requested".
4. A Binom setup specialist will contact you. When the integration is ready, a "Connect" button will appear on the Google Maps page.
5. Click "Connect", go through the steps in the "Connecting Google Maps" window, and click "Done". After "Connecting...", the status will change to "Connected". If the message "Confirmation has not arrived yet. The connection may still complete, so check again in a minute." appears, click "Check again".

## How to choose what Binom can do in Google Maps

A connected integration does nothing until you allow actions. The account states this clearly: "Select the actions the assistant can call. Until something is selected, it cannot use any of them."

1. On the Google Maps page, check the actions you need in the "Actions" list. The "Filter by actions" field helps you find them by name. The counter shows how many are selected.
2. Check the "Ask before changing data" toggle. It is on by default: before a write or delete action, Binom will describe what it intends to do and wait for your response.
3. Click "Save". The message "Allowed actions saved" confirms the changes.

To start, "Validate Address", "Geocode Address", "Text Search (Places)", and "Compute Routes" are enough. Add write and delete actions when you are ready to trust Binom with changes in Google Maps.

## How to check that the integration works

- Start a new conversation with your Binom, for example through a [public chat link](https://binomai.com/faq/public-chat-link/), give an address with a typo, and check how Binom clarifies it.

## Possible problems

### Binom does not use Google Maps data in its answers

**What to check:** the Google Maps status is "Connected", and the needed actions are selected (for example "Geocode Address").
**What to do:** select the actions and click "Save".
**How to tell it is fixed:** the message "Allowed actions saved" appears, and in a new conversation Binom answers using Google Maps data.

### "Could not record the request. Please try again."

**What to do:** click "Request integration" again. If the message repeats, write to support@binomai.com with the name of your Binom and the integration (Google Maps).
**How to tell it is fixed:** the button shows "Requested".

### "Integration is temporarily unavailable - your request has been recorded."

Nothing else is needed: your request is saved, and you will receive a notification when Google Maps can be connected.

### "Reconnection required"

**What it means:** "The service no longer accepts saved access, so the assistant does not use it."
**What to do:** open the Google Maps page in [More integrations](https://app.binomai.com/cabinet/binom/integrations?tab=14), click "Reconnect", and go through the connection window again.
**How to tell it is fixed:** the status is "Connected".

### "Could not start the connection. Please try again."

**What to do:** click "Connect" again. If the message repeats, write to support@binomai.com with the name of your Binom, the integration (Google Maps), and a screenshot of the message.
**How to tell it is fixed:** the "Connecting Google Maps" window opens.

### "On a paid plan" instead of the connect button

The page will show "Available on a paid plan. Tell us what you need, and we will notify you when it launches." For what is included in the plans, see the [plans and subscription pricing](https://app.binomai.com/plans) page, and for how to change your plan, see the instructions [how to change or upgrade your plan](https://binomai.com/faq/change-subscription-plan/). After changing your plan, return to [More integrations](https://app.binomai.com/cabinet/binom/integrations?tab=14) and open Google Maps again.

### "You do not have permission to manage this section."

**What it means:** only users with the Owner or Admin access level can manage integrations.
**What to do:** ask the account owner to give you the Admin access level or to connect Google Maps yourself. More details: [access levels in a team](https://binomai.com/faq/kak-raspredelit-obyazannosti-v-komande-s-pomoshhyu-pyati-urovnej-dostupa-owner-admin-editor-operator-viewer/).
**How to tell it is fixed:** after refreshing the page, the integration settings open.

If the problem is not resolved, write to support@binomai.com or send "I want to talk to a person" in the [Tutor](https://app.binomai.com/cabinet/binom/binom-tutor-stream) chat. Include the name of your Binom, the integration, and a screenshot of the message.

## How to disconnect Google Maps

On the Google Maps page, click "Disconnect". The "Disconnect Google Maps?" window will show a warning: "The assistant will lose access to the service. To restore it, the integration will need to be connected again and the access details entered again." Confirm, and the message "Integration disconnected" will appear.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can Binom change anything in Google Maps?

No. All integration actions only read data.

### Do I need a developer for the Google Maps integration?

No. You request Google Maps in the [Integrations → More integrations](https://app.binomai.com/cabinet/binom/integrations?tab=14) section, the Binom team sets up the integration, and then you connect the account yourself and choose the actions.
