# Algolia Integration: Product Search in Chat - Algolia in Binom

*Updated: 22.10.2026, 16:47 UTC*

The Algolia integration with Binom brings search across your catalog into the conversation: your AI employee searches products or articles in your Algolia indexes and shows what customers are looking for but not finding. Algolia is available on request in your Binom account: Integrations → More integrations → Algolia.

## What Binom can do in Algolia

Binom here means your AI employee. Once Algolia is connected, it calls the service's actions when the conversation needs that data. You decide which actions it can use. In your account, each action is labeled: **read** (Binom only views data), **write** or **delete** (Binom changes or deletes data in Algolia).

| Section | What Binom can view | What Binom can change |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Search | Search across one or several indexes, records | No |
| Records | Index records | Add, replace, update, delete |
| Analytics | Popular queries, searches with no results, click-through rate | No |
| Rules and synonyms | Rules, synonyms, index settings | Create and update |
| Events | No | Clicks, conversions, views |

## Can a chatbot search products through Algolia?

Yes. Binom searches your index ("Search Single Index"), accounts for typos, and shows the customer matching products, taking the details from the record ("Retrieve Record").

## What customers search for but don't find

The owner asks in the chat, and Binom shows popular queries ("Retrieve Top Searches") and searches with no results ("Retrieve Searches No Results"). This shows which products or synonyms to add.

## What access you will need

Connection method: API key. You will need the Application ID and API key from your Algolia dashboard. Details for each method are shown in the "Authentication" section on the Algolia page in your account.

## How to get the Algolia integration

Algolia is connected on request: first, the Binom team sets up the integration for your account. General catalog rules are described in the guide [how to connect a service from "More integrations"](https://binomai.com/faq/connect-service-to-chatbot/).

1. Open [Integrations → More integrations](https://app.binomai.com/cabinet/binom/integrations?tab=14), type "Algolia" in the "Search integrations" field, and open the Algolia card.
2. The "Algolia integration for assistant" page will show the message "Integration is available on request. Request it now, and we will set it up for you as a priority." The assistant here is your Binom. The "Authentication" section shows what access you will need, and the "Actions" list shows everything Binom can do in Algolia.
3. Click "Request integration". "Request sent. You will get a notification when the integration is available" will appear, and the button will change to "Requested".
4. A Binom setup specialist will contact you. When the integration is ready, a "Connect" button will appear on the Algolia page.
5. Click "Connect", go through the steps in the "Connect Algolia" window, and click "Done". After "Connecting...", the status will change to "Connected". If "Confirmation has not arrived yet. The connection may still complete, so check again in a minute" appears, click "Check again".

## How to choose what Binom can do in Algolia

A connected integration does nothing until you allow actions. The account states this clearly: "Select the actions the assistant can call. Until something is selected, it has access to nothing."

1. On the Algolia page, check the actions you need in the "Actions" list. The "Filter actions" field helps you find them by name. The counter shows how many are selected.
2. Review the "Ask before changing data" toggle. It is on by default: before a write or delete action, Binom will describe what it intends to do and wait for your response.
3. Click "Save". The message "Allowed actions saved" confirms the changes.

To get started, "List Indices", "Search Single Index", "Retrieve Record" and "Retrieve Searches No Results" are enough. Add write and delete actions when you are ready to trust Binom with changes in Algolia.

## How to check that the integration works

- Start a new chat with your Binom, for example via a [public chat link](https://binomai.com/faq/public-chat-link/), ask about a product from your catalog, and compare the result with the search on your website.

## Possible problems

### Binom does not use Algolia data in its answers

**What to check:** the Algolia status is "Connected", and the needed actions are selected (for example "Search Single Index").
**What to do:** select the actions and click "Save".
**How to tell it is resolved:** "Allowed actions saved" appears, and in a new chat Binom answers using Algolia data.

### "Could not record the request. Please try again."

**What to do:** click "Request integration" again. If the message repeats, write to support@binomai.com with the name of your Binom and the integration (Algolia).
**How to tell it is resolved:** the button shows "Requested".

### "Integration is temporarily unavailable. Your request has been saved."

Nothing else to do: your request is saved, and you will get a notification when Algolia can be connected.

### "Reconnection required"

**What it means:** "The service no longer accepts the saved access details, so the assistant does not use them."
**What to do:** open the Algolia page under [More integrations](https://app.binomai.com/cabinet/binom/integrations?tab=14), click "Reconnect", and go through the connection window again.
**How to tell it is resolved:** the status is "Connected".

### "Could not start the connection. Please try again."

**What to do:** click "Connect" again. If the message repeats, write to support@binomai.com with the name of your Binom, the integration (Algolia), and a screenshot of the message.
**How to tell it is resolved:** the "Connect Algolia" window opens.

### "On a paid plan" instead of the connect button

The page will show "Available on a paid plan. Tell us what you need, and we will let you know when it launches." For what each plan includes, see the [plans and subscription pricing](https://app.binomai.com/plans) page, and for how to change your plan, see the guide [how to change or upgrade your plan](https://binomai.com/faq/change-subscription-plan/). After changing your plan, return to [More integrations](https://app.binomai.com/cabinet/binom/integrations?tab=14) and open Algolia again.

### "You do not have permission to manage this section."

**What it means:** only users with the Owner or Admin access level can manage integrations.
**What to do:** ask the account owner to give you the Admin access level, or to connect Algolia themselves. More details: [team access levels](https://binomai.com/faq/kak-raspredelit-obyazannosti-v-komande-s-pomoshhyu-pyati-urovnej-dostupa-owner-admin-editor-operator-viewer/).
**How to tell it is resolved:** after refreshing the page, the integration settings open.

If the problem is not resolved, write to support@binomai.com or send "I want to talk to a person" in the [Binom Tutor](https://app.binomai.com/cabinet/binom/binom-tutor-stream) chat. Include the name of your Binom, the integration, and a screenshot of the message.

## How to disconnect Algolia

On the Algolia page, click "Disconnect". The "Disconnect Algolia?" window will show a warning: "The assistant will lose access to the service. To restore it, the integration will need to be connected again and the access details entered again." Confirm, and "Integration disconnected" will appear.

## Common questions

### Do I need a developer for the Algolia integration?

No. You request Algolia in the [Integrations → More integrations](https://app.binomai.com/cabinet/binom/integrations?tab=14) section, the Binom team sets up the integration, and then you connect the account yourself and choose the actions.
