# In what order does an AI employee search for information, and which documents take priority when data conflicts occur?

*Updated: 19.10.2026, 17:27 UTC*

To ensure answer accuracy, the Binom AI employee follows a strict information retrieval protocol.

**Search sequence when processing a request:**

1. **Price lists and catalogs:** Checks product details, prices, and availability first.
2. **Knowledge base (Cards and Tutor):** Searches structured knowledge and rules.
3. **Uploaded documents:** Searches through files (PDF, DOCX, etc.) if no answer is found in the first two sources.

**Data conflict priority (from highest to lowest):**

1. **Business Profile:** Holds the highest priority over all other sources for contact information and company details.
2. **Price List:** Acts as the master benchmark source for all product-related data.
3. **Knowledge Cards (Cards):** Serve as "constant blocks" and take precedence over any uploaded documents. If card data conflicts with a file, the AI will select the card data.
4. **Tutor Knowledge:** Information discussed with and structured by the Tutor takes precedence over raw files uploaded directly without discussion.
5. **Uploaded files:** Treated as supplementary reference material and used only when data is absent from higher-priority sources.

If verified information is missing across all sources, the system will not invent an answer; instead, it will state that data is unavailable or offer to route the query to a live operator.

## Updated on 19.10.26

To ensure the accuracy of its answers, the Binom AI employee follows a strict information search protocol.

**Search sequence when processing a request:**

1. **Price lists and catalogs** - product, price and availability data is checked first.
2. **Knowledge base (Cards and Binom Tutor)** - search through structured knowledge and rules.
3. **Uploaded documents** - search through files (PDF, DOCX and others) if the answer is not found in the first two sources.

**Priorities when data conflicts (from highest to lowest):**

- **Business Profile:** Has the **highest priority** over all sources for contact details and company description.
- **Price List:** Is considered the reference source for any product information.
- **Knowledge Cards (Cards):** Serve as "blocks of constants" and have a **higher priority than any documents**. If the information in a card contradicts a file, the AI will choose the data from the card.
- **Knowledge from Binom Tutor:** Information discussed with Binom Tutor and structured by them takes precedence over documents uploaded directly without discussion.
- **Uploaded files:** Treated as additional reference material and used only when the data is absent from the sources above.

If reliable information is missing from all sources, the system **does not generate an answer on its own**, but reports that the data is unavailable or offers to transfer the request to an operator.

## In short: what Binom considers correct

- **Products:** Binom searches the price list first.
- **Cards are the priority knowledge.** If the answer to the same question is found in both the price list or documents and in a card, Binom will take the answer from the card.

## How to make sure the right answer sticks in practice

If your documents contain different versions of the same fact, for example, the old files list John as the director, then Stephen, and now it is Lida, there is no need to rewrite all the documents. Create a [knowledge card](https://binomai.com/faq/voprosy-i-otvety-dlya-chat-bota-kartochki/) "Who is the director?" with the answer "Lida": Binom will treat the card as the priority knowledge.

If Binom notices a contradiction between a card and a document during a conversation with a client, it will show it in the "Active conflicts" block on the [Dashboard](https://app.binomai.com/cabinet) and suggest choosing the correct data: [how to remove contradictions from the knowledge base](https://binomai.com/faq/bot-daet-raznye-otvety-konflikty/).

## Other common questions

### What is RAG in simple terms?

RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) is an approach in which AI first finds the relevant pieces in your materials, then formulates an answer based on them. Binom works the same way: uploaded materials are indexed for search, and the answer is built from the data found. ### Where does the bot get its answers?

From your price lists, cards, knowledge from Binom Tutor, and documents, in the order described above. To test the answers before launch: [how to test an AI employee](https://binomai.com/faq/how-to-test-an-ai-employees-performance-and-personally-verify-their-skills-before-launching-to-clients/).
